Looks like they light up the direction you're turning in. See in the first and third ones, the people are in the dark...

Thats not actually on the Merc ML is it?
Its on the new one...almost all new upscale cars have them.

Lexus have had this for quite some time.

I think Lexus was the first one to implement it as well... it stared with their New RX330 and is now in their 2005 LS430

Well, seeing as the Citroen DS had tracking headlights in 1967 and Lexus starting making cars in 1989, I'd say Citroen was the first.

They beat them by 22 years. :p

Citroen DS had these way before I was born...

Yes. And now you can have them on Citro?n C4, too.

Quite nice invention actually... I think these really make driving at night a bit safer. 8)

Was that the car with 3 headlights and only the center one turned? If not, some American car was doing this pre-1967 I think.

Yeah, I think this one independent American car company did that in the fifties. He only made 50 cars I think, and there was a movie made about it too. I can't remember the name of the car or the movie for the life of me though. :?

Yeah, I saw the movie too, and I also can't remember what it was called...the automotive giants sued the poor fellow for all sort of stupid stuff because he made a car which was too advanced for its time. It had an engine from a helicopter and it featured that lights-turning-gimmick.

Citreon DS were the first if an ep of 5th Gear that I taped is anything to go by.

looks like only one of them turns, keeping forward visibility assuming you're stopped at an intersection. Quite intelligent

the american one was Tucker -- i think they made 50 or so. They were really far ahead of the times.

One question though...is it automatic or does the driver change the direction of the headlamps according to his needs?
