I just had a bit of a mix up and all of a sudden this weekend is free. So, due to conversation and recommendation, I've decided to hit the Great Ocean Road this Sunday for a drive. I suggested an FG drive day on another thread a while back and it seemed to have the thumbs up, so, if anyone is free this Sunday, what say you to a drive day?

I'd love to...

BUT, yesterday I drove Melb-Moama-Melb (with paintballing in between). I am in severe pain (from paintballing but also my wallet) due to it not being a pay week and only having $20 to my name :( Thus, I cannot afford petrol at the moment.

Perhaps another time when I'm not poor.

We'll have to do a few drives I reckon, Black Spur Rd is another that I'm told is a good afternoon out...

No can do this weekend - but I do know the MR2 Club is having their Great Ocean Road run on Sunday, so if you do head down there watch out for those nutter AW11 drivers (I won't be one of them - prior commitments)

What a good idea flyingfridge, wish I could come but I dont drive and im in Sydney  Guess your by yourself? :(

It would be good if we could get all Aussies and go for a Gumball style drive interstate somewhere

wooo going tomorrow, I'll let u know what I think when i get back!! I'll try to get pics too. Time to update that old pic the previous owner took of the Prelude!!

Have fun 'fridge, it's an amazing bit of road, one that's calling out to me. I'm itching to get out there again, pity I can't make it tommorow.

we'll definitely have to do an FG Great Ocean Rd Run next time. I guess this thread was a bit short notice for most people. More organisation next time!!

Have fun mate and yes, do take some pics for us...

The Golf has been on another great windy road, the Great Alpine Road and it handles suprisingly well! No doubt it'd be a barrell of fun on the GOR.

Doh! My plans got cancelled at the last minute (i.e this morning), so we headed down there anyway (had to get out of the house for some inspections anyway). Was hoping I might bump into a certain Prelude. Went as far as Apollo Bay. Was great to give the MR2 a run in it's natural habitat.

This is a great time of year for a GOR run - the traffic's not bad so you can clear it pretty easily and run free... oh yes, fun I did have :D :D :D - and how lucky am I to have a wife who enjoys it too.

So I'm up for another run when everyone's free.

(BTW - I can highly recommend the Hazlenut Gelati from the ice-cream place in Apollo Bay)

Man, what a day. Went all the way to Port Campbell. Saw plenty of MR2's fbc, but all of them were SW20s with the occasional Spider thrown in. I took my Singaporean friend from here at College so some of the sights were also a must. The run home from Port Campbell though, OMG. That's was fantastic, through the Otways near Lavers Hill, there were no cars on the road and it was simply awesome to stretch the Prelude to it's full potential and listen to the tuned exhaust echo back off the trees.

Back on the twisty coast road, I had a fantastic full throttle dice with a MY99 WRX, of course it was way faster than me, but I could hold his corner speed and give him a good run. I'm still smiling, even after the commute back to Melbourne. I think I'll be smiling for about a week or 5 longer too...

Hehe thats what drivings all about :D

Ok tell us what speeds you got...c'mon mate, you can tell us :driving:

I'm surprised you didn't get caught speeding down great ocean road... drove with my parents about 1 month ago and I got 1 ticket when I'm on my learner permit ... and then my dad got another one on a C-road going back to melbourne by an unmarked Commodore

Let's just say I probably shouldn't have my license anymore. 80km/h my arse. That having been said it's only illegal if you get caught.

Only saw two coppers all day. The GOR is perfect for doing what you want really. You just have to have a keen eye for cop cars and if you are careful enough, you've got nothing to worry about.

Great stuff - I had some fun with an XR6 Turbo at one point - on the straight he used all his torques to get away, but I'd catch him on the bends. I actually didn't find the 80km/h speed limit to be that bad - though I didn't venture past Apollo Bay onto the more open section. The tight twisty stuff before there is too tight for cornering speeds above 80 anyway, so it doesn't hamper you as much as I thought it would (though of course it does *cough* hold back your speed *cough* between corners, but that's not what really matters anyway)

I only came across one MR2 - the overnight stay for their run was Apollo Bay, and then they would've headed further down the road (as you discovered). Did exchange waves with a guy in an SW20 - presumably coming home early.

Very risky on the long weekend but I find that coppers tend to stay in the city to catch people going 5km/h over the limit.....My dad got booked just yesterday...7km/h over the limit. Man he's not a threat! He's an experienced driver and aint gonna crash into nobody :x

The speed initiative is totally ridiculous. I got done for 54 in a 50 zone a few weeks ago. They need to start looking at the shit that's causing deaths, not what's profitable. Barstards.

Yep, just like me after my jaunt up to Echuca/Moama. Mind you, the Northern Highway is a POS. One lane, gravel shoulders most of the way.

Fuck catching people doing 4km/h over the limit, fix up the bloody shocking B and C roads we have in this state, that's what Bracks and his goons should be doing... and raise the limit on A and M freeways/highways to 120/130km/h 8)

And set up more booze buses/breathalyser stations, get the drunk and drugged drivers off our roads, introduce a better roadworthiness system etc etc.

Like 'fridge said, fix the causes of deaths, stop making money, we pay our taxes and road tolls, thats enough!
