City of Heroes and City of Villains were a popular MMORPG by NCSoft, which was shut down at the end of November 2012.
I started playing at the suggestion of a friend at the time, and continued to play with friends I made in game, after he decided to move on to other things.
I've been following a fan community of CoX, for years, and there have been attempts to purchase the IP, which fell through, but finally someone leaked the source code, and a server was set up to be able to play. These whispers started going around, and finally the server was revealed a couple of weeks ago!
I'd forgotten how great the game was.. I've sent messages to the friends I made in game (in fact one just called me from New Mexico!), and we're going to sort out teaming up like old times.
I now know Hemily played, but do we have any other old players around here?
