Asus returned to the store, good riddance. Normally they don't do refunds on opened and used products but they bent the rules a bit.
I walked out with an 802.11ac Airport Extreme. A networking enthusiast would probably run away screaming into the woods because there are exactly zero configurable features in this thing other than port forwards and basic IP and DNS settings. I can't say I care though. The only reason I've had to dick around with router settings before is because something didn't work.
