Auto Annoyances

The back end of the X is prone to bottoming out when going through dips, best fix is either airbags for street use or a lift kit with better springs.

My shin sometimes bumps the underside of the dash, especially when I'm wearing hiking boots. That panel really should be higher.

The front bumper is plastic, I want metal.

Trailer hitch hangs down too low and has a nasty effect on departure angle.

Can't fit bigger than 33" tires without using a heat gun to remodel the fender liner for clearance.

Can only fit tall skinny tires, eve with the "melt mod."

Annoyingly rare lug pattern makes finding cheap steel rims impossible.

No side indicator light on the fender.

No heated mirror option in the US, only in Canada.

The roof "wet basket" does not lock.

Nothing wrong with tall, skinny tires. I ran 35"X10.5" on my old beater F-250 and loved them.

The lights buzzer needs to be fixed; forgot the DRL:s on for the whole day in -15?C weather and emptied the battery. Luckily I had the jump leads in the boot, and a school friend who drives an absolutely terrible carbage'd diesel Escort gave me a jump.

I have a picture of the donor RX7 somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

To sum it up: the A/C and airpump (not sure if the RX-8 has one) take up quite a lot of space. Plus the emissions crap combined with the engine being pushed way back to the firewall makes it a bitch to get to. The 13B maybe small, but it can be as hard to work on as a Jaguar V12 due to how it is all packaged.

Airpumps are the most useless form of emission control. My old '76 Volvo had one, my mechanic pulled it off once the bearing started to go. He just capped the exhaust manifold and pulled the pump off.

I had an air pump seize on me in a 91 fox body while it was idling. I was standing outside when suddenly I hear the most ear piercing screech coming from under the hood followed by clouds of white smoke. It freaked the hell out of me. I had no idea what was going on. I just ran as fast as I could to shut off the motor. But by the time I got there the belt had snapped. Once I figured out the issue I just got a smaller belt and bypassed the air pump because I needed the car immediately and couldn't afford to put the car out of commission for any amount of time. That fix turned into a permanent one

The radio in the ol Roadmaster has decided to screech at me all the time. I needs a new one badly.

You know whats annoying? Unexpected power drains. In the night. By itself. I think it's related to the "horn controls the stereo volume" problem it's already booked in for next week. It has probably been playing with the stereo, interior lights or exterior lights which all route through the same control module.

Oh boy oh boy the master is here! I am pleased to meet you today!
*turn key*
I die.

Thanks GM, I love electrical problems.
I want a hand crank.

I have now experienced the most annoying fault a 323F can develop. They all do it, so it's not a big deal, but starting it up at -20?C weather without pre-heating the cabin meant the speedo let out an absolutely bewildering noise. Apparently preventing it is such a hassle that the common advice is to just to try to bear it (or preheating the cabin), but it really is somewhat of a noise.

I can't stand that the volume increments are so massive on my mums Astras stereo. 2 notches is too soft and 3 is too loud. Only when you go past 4 it starts to even out, but its far too loud then anyway. Why do they do that?

What year is that Astra? Two notches on the H does nothing since they are so tight together.

It is a H, an 06 model, with the CDC40 stereo. Like I said, the increments are small past 3, but up to it there are massive gaps. Its no problem when your driving or have the air con on, but when its idling and you've got a headache, it can be very annoying.

^ I have a similar problem with the stereo in my Jazz, it suddenly goes from 'can't hardly hear anything' to 'BOOM BOOM BOOM!' in just a couple of levels, even with the bass dialed right back. The knob is also very sensitive so it's almost impossible to adjust the volume while driving, the slightest bump causes my hand to push the thing too far one way or the other.

Ah the Opera. That one's weird. It won't play as loud as the CD30 either despite it coming at a premium. SDVC should fix the volume for you automagically though so you shouldnt need to turn it down when you idle, if you get the chance you can poke about the settings to see that it's enabled and at the correct sensitivity level.

I've been stuck driving my sisters '08 Impreza all week and I hate almost everything about it.
It's underpowered and really whiny. The seat sits too low and there's no place to rest your arms for highway driving. The electronics don't work, meaning none of the steering wheel buttons work, half the stereo buttons don't work, and the left turn signal flashes at 3x faster than the third. And the whole interior is ugly grey plastic.

Ultimate auto annoyance: I haven't driven in a week! :(
