Well, it is possible to build regular trains tracks elevated, too. It just isn't done because it's too expensive. They did it with the Transrapid exactly because of it's speed.

I agree with everything you said in that post.

IIRC, Shinkansen lines are often elevated due to property prices. It was much cheaper to build enormous flyovers than to purchase the land necessary for a ground level right-of-way.
