As the subject says it all, how do I do it when I am deleting my current Windows and reinstalling it (I usually format the C: in the process)?

I use McAfee VirusScan 8 and Windows XP.

Thanks in advance :)

why not just redownload teh virus definitions, and the same with the updates?

That's not a good idea. It seems to me that he doesn't have a SP2 Windows CD. He would go online and infect his system with MS blast immediately. I've been in the same situation. My tip is the following. Make yourself a CD with the SP2 update and the Firewall of your choice, install Windows, update to SP2 and install the Firewall. After you've done that you can get the virus updates from the net.

okay, but even the SP0 firewall would block MSblast. he would only have to think of enabling if before going online.

Sorry I didn't reply in this thread for ages

Actually I do get hit with MSBlast every time I reinstall Windows. But next time, I will install Windows with SP2, so that shouldn't be a problem.

As for the McAfee virus defs, I simply do not want to redownload all of them all over again. Rather, I want to copy a particular folder (problem is...I don't know which one) and paste it back when I reinstall Windows and McAfee.

So does anyone know which particular folder contains the virus defs of McAfee? :)

This is something I'd like to know as well. Which folder does contain the mcfee virus defs. Or did they keep at so hidden that it's impossible to copy. That would be a real bummer. It takes more than a day for me to dl all the updates and install and reinstall them.

:bangin:

I think new sets of definitions might added onto ones you already have, I mean of course they're added but I guess "hardwired" into the software, so maybe to best thing to do is once you finish the of XP install ZoneAlarm, then install your NAV and then update it...because ZA will let you now if any programs are trying to gain Internet access incoming or outgoing. I reformatted my HDD twice last week and that's what I did. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong :p
