I can't seed until the next month. My isp threatened to suspend my service for 7 days if I go over the 20gb bandwidth limit again.

mine is just too happy to charge me $9/ additional GB :roll:

And that's why I love the USA -- bandwidth caps are much more uncommon down here. :)

yeah but I'd rather have a bandwidth cap than a slow speed and not being able to download as much because of the slowness! :p

lies! i'm in the US and my isp will cap me if they see a high upload for more than 15 minutes lol

Well that's why cable sucks. <3 DSL.

That's why I am planning to either switch to ADSL or upgrade my cable package starting August.

The local ADSL provider doesn't really care how much bandwidth you use, but the speed is capped at around 200kb/s for downloads. With the upgraded cable package I get 50gb of bandwidth and 5mbs download speed according to the company's website.

bleh! cable OWNS dsl! much faster! :p
True, download speeds are usually faster on cable, but you get jack shit for upload. For $46/mo, I'm gonna bet 1.5 mbit down and 896k up with no bandwidth cap. :D

what do these numbers translate in real life speed (kbps?)

I think that roughly you'd divide by 8, so :

1.5mbit = 1.5 x 1024 = 1536k; 1536k / 8 = 192 kbps down

896k = 896k / 8 = 112 kbps up

If you see numbers higher than that, it's possibly due to compression of uncompressed data during transfer.

Bleh Vip... you're getting pwned by Cable again (okok you don't have bandwidth cap but it's still not fast for d/l)

I get 480kbps down and 100 up for $38 CDN/ month! :wink: and 20gb down, 10gb up is well enough

That maybe enough for you, but I almost get that much downloaded in a month with my 56k cap :lol: .

For the way I use it not having a download / upload cap is much more important than download / upload speed.

Theoretically, you could reach your 20gb download limit in 4 days with your 480kbps, and your 10gb upload in about 10 days at 100kbps.

At 56k, it would take me about 35 days.
In 30 days I could get about 17GB at 56k, so almost the same amount downloaded with a much slower download speed.
That's why I think not having a cap or having a higher cap is much more important than a higher speed when deciding what ISP to go with (if you're a heavy downloader).

Sure, it's nice to be able to download faster, but what's the point if you can't download as much as a slower speed one.
So what if you have to wait for the file a bit longer. :)

a LITTLE longer? ew! everything is slower even webpages! yuck!

and if you can wait then wait the next month to download it :wink: it's gonna be as fast as downloading it with your 56k :lol: :lol:

Maybe I was giving off the wrong impression, I'm not trying to say 56k without a cap is better than 480k with a 20GB cap.

I was more trying to say:
256k without a cap to me is better than 480k with a 20GB cap.

That makes more sence..

although for me the 480k with a 20GB cap is still the best option
