For those in the UK (or those who of you in BeNeLux who get our shows without paying the license fee!), BBC1 is doing a documentary on Richard Hammond's drinking habits on Thursday.

Pint-sized Richard Hammond is an anxious man. After filming his drinking habits for "Should I Worry About Drinking?", the Top Gear co-host is shocked to find he's classed in the same bracket as a hardened alcoholic.

"Now that I'm counting, it's clear that I drink a fair bit more than I realise," says Richard, 35, who knocks back over 50 unites of alcohol in an average week - roughly 25 pints of beer and more than double the maximum 21 units recommended for men.

"Richard might not see this as a proble, but his GP does. "Anything over eight units a night puts you into the binge-drinking category," she explains. A visit to a liver specialist...reveals that just five years of heavy drinking could do serious damage. The news has a soberig effect on Richard.

On that Norwegian ferry, for one, he certainly put a lot of it into his dancing. In all seriousness, he must've built up a helluva tolerance in his younger years. Then again, I'm 5'7" and six units one particular night left me still walking and talking.

Haha. What's worse? Richard's drinking or Jeremy's chain-smoking? I wonder what's James' vice.

 where does he put it all - I mean he's only little...

Not that little... 173 cm... Same as me. I guess I drank twice the amout last week, but then it was pretty much the hardest party week of the last year... ;-)
If its constantly at that level, its going to get dangerous at some point!

Come on... 25 pints a week? That's nothing... For a student anyways :p

The one night the bunch of us went out to a bar/pub, they call it a caf? here in the no-TV-Licence-free-Top-Gear country of Belgium, and I personally spent 50 euros on beers. Now bare in mind, it was happy hour (or hours... they go from 13:00 to midnight) meaning thats 50 bottles of Stella Artois. That's 16 and a half litres or something... We then drank a few more times that week...

Saying this however, I kinda had a bad one the other day. I haven't slept for a while then I had to go to a friend's farewell party. I drank like there was no tomorrow, and I didn't know I was actually ill that day. Next day... Good Lord, I felt like I died and went to hell. Then I thought I'd counter the effects of the "hangover" (which it wasn't, it was just my illness) with more drinking, and I got given some old beer from the tap, and it made it worse... I think I must've died or something...

PS. When is this show? Next Thursday?

Hey Undercool you think can cap this for us? ;)

Someone chose option 2!
Alchie!

It's too much, really.. he may have the money to spend, but damn.. that's some serious drinking! It would explain the tired look of his eyes though.. that much alcohol isn't healthy, no matter if you're a brit or not ;)

I chose option two, but I'm a student with very little responsibilities. Richard has a wife and kids... I dunno about that.

I sure hope someone gets this for us. :D

google tells me that pint = roughly 1/2liter, meaning 12-13litres of beer per week.
if this is correct than whats the fuss all about? :?
thats about 2litres of beer per day. meaning 2 bottles of beer at lunch, and 2 botlles at dinner. so where's the problem?

given i have beer in my fridge, given i feel like having beer instead of something else at lunch/dinner, i consume that much.

and this is just a regular day, not even counting about special occasions, parties etc.

ps: where's a simple option in the pool like no, i dont think thats much. had to vote for option number 2, though i dont consume WAY more than that
