Best Getaway Car?

My Dad's old Subaru Legacy GT turbo estate (wagon) was stolen 3 times.

1st time by joy riders, they were caught by the police and the car recovered.

2nd time it was used to hold up a post office and abandoned afterwards.

and the 3rd time we don't know why because they slapped it into a wall about 1 mile from home and legged it, the car was a write off.

It was great, it looked like a hearse, was dark metalic gray with matching alloys, and had the quadcam intercooled turbo motor from the impreza and 4WD, it went like stink.

Well the most used getaway cars (espacially in UK) are the (R)S versions of Audi. Fast, easy to drive (AWD) and not very recognisable.

This is a snapshot of some thiefs stealing a couple of world-famous paintings by norwegian painter Edward Munch,
take a look at their car, isn't it an Audi RS2? I gues we have a winner! 8)

(and they still haven't caught them)

the RS2 would make a kickass getaway car, loads of room for stuff you stole, easy to control 4wd and pretty quick...

I have thought about this. And here is my getaway car. A Clear modified Volkswagen T4 van. Full Porsche 4x4 drivetrain with RUF-tuned 3.6 litre biturbo engine (650hp).

It holds 6 people, lots of stuff and will do 273km/h

Sweet.

Holy crap, now that's one people carrier I wouldn't mind being seen in.

I've actually been tossing this idea around for ages, and I think if you started with a police interceptor model Ford Crown Vic, painted it up like a taxi, then threw some money into the engine and suspension (and maybe installed a stick shift), you'd be set. Of course I'd want a few James Bond gadgets, too, like rotating license plate and maybe quick-change logos on the sides of the car, smoke screen, a switch to disable tail/break lights, hydraulic or pneumatic shocks so you could gain a lil ground clearence for offroading, and last but not least, some caltrops to blow out their tires. An AWD swap would be fun, but prolly too much work.

Now if you don't wanna go that route, my second choice is to take a Subaru Outback and make a sleeper out of it, especially if it is one of the new models with the WRX-inspired suspension and drivetrain. They're common as dirt here in Montana, they aren't at all flashy, they handle great for a wannabe SUV, they're already AWD, they're bitchin offroad, and they may not be super quick but I bet they have lots of modding potential. I wonder if the STI engine is a straight swap. Pneumatic suspension would be great, here, too.

It looks the old Audi 100 based S4, not the RS2. I may be wrong, though.

damn... now thats a shaggin wagon

but there is significantly more to getting away then what kind of car you drive especilly the first car (since you will be switching) ok assume your robbing a bank of cash... the amount of cash to make this excercise worth while for a direct crew of 4 and probobally an extended crew of 6 is going to be rather bulky first lets assume the heist goes well no one killed alarm taken care of so the police are not being alerted till you leave the building first your not going to leave through the front since invariably there will be lots of people outside to ID you and the car. you leave through the rear into your fast but not overly conspicuous station wagon (audi RS6, Mistubishi Legnum VR-XX) something with plenty of go and cargo room the first car needs to be stolen within 2-3 hours of the heist going down since you don't want to leave a car that the police can track back to anyone. so you take off from the bank travel a resonable distance away say 4-5 miles where you then do the first switch of cars. this is when the extended crew comes in the first get away car is dumped the loot is then transfered to 2 seperate family sedans into the closed trunks (perferably inside lugage with clothing) now the 2 family sedans (different makes and models) should be properly registered and fully legal (this is going to require forged idenitys) 2 members of the bank robbing crew take off in each family sedan with a "wife" thats the extended crew i was talking about the other 2 crew members head off in either another clean / legal car/bike or public transportation leaving the origianal getaway car behind (careful of prints)

anway yeah i suggest the RS6 for the first part and maybe toyota camrys or nissan maximas or honda accord for the switch cars

not that i have thought about this much

once i can figure out how to do that part

my dad told me the secret to being a good theif: "Steal once... and only for enough money that you never have to steal again"

TF
edited... so my post makes more sense

^ both of those would work... see ideally you won't need to "getaway" you will just drive off switch cars and so on.... if your trying to our run the cops your already screwed... remember you can out run a car but it's real tough to outrun the radio
