IIRC, they aren't bandwidth limited. I believe they closed it due to our C&D.

The original idea of the site, when I registered the domain, was to provide reviews of "soon to be available" cars. Sort of a play on beta software. I started offering TG downloads on the Anandtech forums last year and the site sort of branched out to where it is now. I still hope to add a news/reviews section to the site but I simply don't have the free time. I am already spending more time on the site than I ever intended.

Anyhow, in answer to the original question, registration to Betacars has been closed for 2 reasons.

1. When Finalgear had problems such as those we have seen lately, registration at my site went through the roof and bandwidth suffered because it is a direct-download site with a single file server. My site isn't meant as competition for a torrent site like this one. It is simply a way for the bittorrent "illiterate" to get access to Top Gear and as an archive for early episodes not offered here.

2. It is unlikely anyone from the BBC is already registered on my site and closing the registration now will (hopefully) keep them off my back because unless you are logged in you cannot see the forums or downloads.

Are you going to do an invitation style system? I'm currently reliant on other sources for the top gear stuff due to uni blocking bittorrent....
