BMW, Audi and Mecedes Benz removing speed limiters

Oh excellent find :D Its about time I say! It never made sense that someone who owned a E55, was restricted to the same speed as an E350.

Oh cool another Aussie member

hey i found out the S500s and most classes are actually limited to 130 MPH (well atleast the S-classes) because thats what the tires are rated too

I was just about to say, what about the tires?
I dont get it. Whats the issue with tires :? Both the S & E-Class brochure sez that they are limited to 250km/h (155mp/h).

Well if you remove the speed limiter, then the user can go above the rated maximum speed of the tire, therefore creating a hazardous situation.

So what do you mean, that all the cars that have the speed limited removed cannot reach and exceed the rated maximum speed of the tire?

No no I was questioning the issue of tires cos darktempler said that the S500 was limited to 130mp/h when according to the brochure its limited to 155mp/h. I only quoted you because at the time, I was unaware that diffrent tires were required if the car were to go beyond 155 ;) Sorry for the confusion :p

Pimp

Wooohoooo!!!!!!

Nice to know that you buy a german sportscar limited to 155mph with autobahns free of speed limits

I was time to think

Afaik, all the Benzes have V rated tires which means 290 km/h if I remember correctly... At least in Germany...

I've heard, the reason why some of these cars are limited 130 Mph.
Is simply because, of the American Tarmac.

It happens, that for the American market, these cars are sold with a more soft tire, that provides a more smooth ride, since the American tarmac is Rougher compared with the European Tarmac.

If they were sold, with the normal European tires, the ride would probably be noisy. To solve that, they replace the Euro low profile tires, with softer low profile tires.

And is not just Mercedes - Audi, BMW, Lexus, Jaguar, Saab, Volvo and etc also limited some of the cars at 130 Mph, just because of the need of a softer tire for the rough American tarmac.
