Finally BMW Phil has responded to my emails concerning special ordering a manual tranny 320d. The product person handling my request said that it could take up to 6 months for my order to be filled because they had to homologate it for our roads and diesel. So my question now is if you were in my place would you wait half a year?

The situation here is that BMW Phil is just offering in the steptronic tranny (no 6 speed manuals) of the 320i, 325i and 330i. The performance and fuel figures of the petrol version doesnt impress me much and I would rather have the diesel version.

Prices are in Euro converted from the Phil Peso sticker price

Variant:
320i
Base = 33,500
Exec = 37,100
Sport = 40,000
Tech = 41,400
325i
Base = 50,500
Exec = 51,600
Sport = 55,000
Tech = 56,300
330i
Exec = 57,100
Sport = 60,000

NO it is ugly :thumbsdown:

Work harder and buy a SL :thumbsup:

wait 6 months.. 6 months ain't alot of time

if you really want a 320d Manual, just wait... as logo said, 6months isn't a long time at all

Hey, 6 months is NOTHING compared to the waiting list for high demand cars. If you really want a specific car, then you should wait. At least you'll get exactly what you want.

get a petrol one...

why?.. when the diesel one is quicker and cheaper to run... plus from Gumball... it shows the bmw "d3" has pretty decent performance as well

But it's.... diesel. :yucky:

yeah it'll sound like a truck when idling .. but he said he got an EVO so.. who cares about this 320d? I say wait, 6 months will fly by so quick you won't even notice

^^

I only know of the 3 litre one, but that I have driven a lot... From the inside you really don't get the fact that it is a diesel... Soundwise... The revcounter gives it away, off course...

I would wait as well...

You buy a BMW for driving involvment, that doesn't go with a diesel.

You buy a BMW for it's inline 6 sound, not to sound like a tractor.

actually... the new BMW's don't sound that much like a diesel anymore... much better than before...

well I guess the petrol ones sound like diesel now, :p cause I heard a couple of reviews saying that the new M5 when idling sounds like diesel nobody liked that V10 idling.

You should've heard the product person's reaction to my request. Diesel? Manual Tranny? It is as if I was talking jibberish. :lol:

Wait for it. You'll wait a little longer, but you'll have the car you want for a longer time. If you don't wait, you'll remember and regret it a lot of times.
And don't listen to those who say you can't have driving involvement with a diesel. I have driven both specimens, and sure you'll have more fun with a petrol, but only if it's special enough, like your Evo. If you're keeping it, go for the diesel. It will make you smile a lot, too. I wouldn't go for the BMW, though, as you spend a lot of time inside it, and that interior... :puke: and when you get out of it, it isn't much better. But it sure will be good. Just change tires, and you'll probably have one of the best cars on the road. Not too much power, but not too little, not too extreme, but not too confortable, either, just a good compromise. And as you said, you've got the Evo for fun. :thumbsup:

What won me over was Plato's review (thanks VUK & Viper!) a few weeks ago. If it passes Plato's scrutiny it's acceptable for me. :) Another thing going for it is that BMW diesel tech is second only to the Rotary Engine being used on the RX-8 in terms of engineering excellence/advancement. I'm sure keeping the Evo at least until I completely pay off the financing. By then maybe I'll get the all new STi or GT-R :)

I've actually seen the interior of the 320i (I assume it'll be identical to the "d") and it's ok. I kinda got sick of the pseudo wood finish in my benz W203 C-Class. I talked to a sales rep one one dealership and he said if I removed the RFT and installed third party rims I'd void my cars warranty. I'm forced to get BMW run flat rims. Even if I did opt to void my warranty and put non-run flats I run the risk of having no spare in the trunk.

The 320d's probably gonna be my commute car to and from work. For "heavy duty" (lots of stop and gos at an average of 20-40kph) driving low end power's ideal for overtaking. If I went for the 325i or 330i I wouldnt be able to maximize the 155mph capability of the car. I honestly got too spoiled with the Evo's torque.

I'll be contacting BMW Phil again in 30 day's time so I can find out how much it'll cost and place a formal order. I'll probably deck it out with the stuff I need and keep iDrive, Active Steering, Adaptive Lights off the car. I gotta remember to specify the iPod connector. ;)

WTF are you talking about Renesis ? Here in QC, posers buy them because their foreign, expensive and "in". 90%+ of the BMW sdales go to people who couldn't care less how good a drivers car it is. And it is.

In NorthAm we don't have the position to analyse the diesel option ... we simply don't have those options.

Plato's right with the review. It must be a great car. Even the old E39 5 series has a riding/Handling compromise my A6 can't dream of. And their seats are simply amazing. If you can, specify better seats yet, and you won't want to leave your car.
In a review between A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI, Alfa 147 1.9 MJet 150hp and BMW 120d 163hp, the best engine was the Alfa's. BMW matched with acceleration, and Audi with in-gear accelerations, but the Alfa was the best overall.
Are you placing a order or reserving a car? Why don't you wait to see more about the Lexus IS220d? It's one of the possibilities to be my next car...

About the RFT, check if that's really true. Maybe they even have an obscure option you can tick. And you can get a can of spray and a compressor, as the Z3M and other BMWs have. You can always change wheels when it's revision time. ;)
