First collaboration between BMW and Pininfarina results in V12-engined coup? concept; set to be revealed at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'este 2013

Not sure whats the purpose of that, as it effectively equals a 6-series coupe :D.

The BMW Gran Lusso Coup? Pininfarina, previewed here in a series of teaser shots, will be revealed in full at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'este 2013 show.

Co-designed with Italian car design firm Pininfarina, the coup? is claimed to be "the embodiment of sheer elegance". It continues a design theme that was seen on last year's distinctive Zagato Coup?.

Power comes from a front-mounted V12 engine, most likely the twin-turbo 6.0-litre unit found in current iterations of the 7-series. This unit is rated at 544bhp and 550lb ft, which would give the coup? suitably rapid and smooth performance.

The new coup? features typical BMW proportions, including short front and rear overhangs, a long bonnet and a sizeable wheelbase.

Little else has been revealed about the concept's features or specifications, and the interior is yet to be seen. BMW says, however, that the cabin of the coup? demonstrates the "successful combination of modern elegance and luxury".

BMW's Gran Lusso Coup? Pininfarina concept could potentially be the basis for a new generation of BMW 8-series, the last of which rolled off the production line in 1999.

The 8-series was also a front-engined, rear-drive coup? - and it was similarly offered with a V12 engine. Rivals of the time included GTs like the Porsche 928.

The new BMW Grand Lusso Coup? Pininfarina concept will be revealed in full on 24 May.

I'd like to see the 8 series return. Just hope they keep it somewhat light & sporting. The drawings look like it is going to be quite huge.

I've never seen a car designed to look like a flat cap before, will be very popular in Yorkshire with the optional dog guard in the back for 'whippet. I assume this will compete with the Panamera and the Rapide, it looks like it's along the same lines.

A new 8 series would be nice, sadly pop-up headlights don't really work these days.

What the world really needs from BMW is another big GT. Maybe with 2- and 4-door variants and a sleek body.

Clearly, what BMW needs right now is a bigger big car. So 7-series coup? would by BMW logic by the 8-series, I mean it's got v12 badges and everything, and of that they'll need to make a grand coup? of course, with four doors, like with the 6-series, which is already a 5-series coup?.

It's like MB, only worse!

All-new V12 cars are always good news. Hopefully it will be a serious attempt and not just a one-off concept.

Well fuck me, they better build that. Just add a few inches trunklid, stretch it a tad more. Oh and it totally deserves that V12!

Ok back to reality: It currently has the status of "One-Off" and will probably stay that way :(

Unfortunately, as I just edited in, its officially a one-off and realistically I don't see them really putting that into production. Unless some sheiks go ahead and say "Build it, we'll pay silly money!".

I was thinking about it while looking at the photos. I've seen the one-offs that Ferrari makes for their ?ber-rich clients, but I was wondering if BMW has grown too big and "corporate" to build a custom, even if enough money was waved in their face.

I'm sure I'm the only one that noticed this, but why did the female model in the pictures change her shoes? :|

Hmm, I'm not particularly fond of the grille either. Not because of the size, but because it sits flush with the hood when normally it should be further down (and creating kind of a border).

In general I think it's very handsome. Parts of it are overdetailed and some of it looks a bit generic. Overall though, nicely done!
