my dad is buying a new car this summer, which one should he get, the BMW 545i or the Mercedes E320??

BMW. I would say that the E-class is tied with the 5-Series overall. You have to ask yourself what you want: performance or comfort. If you answer that question, you see which car is best for you.

Well in terms of performance, the E320 can't compete with the 545i, maybe the 530i. I would go for the BMW, its a better car in all respects

I would choose the Merc, just because I like the looks better than the Bimmer. They messed it up with that new designer. It doesn't look like a proper BMW anymore like the previous model 5 series (but that's just my opinion).
Just make a lot of testdrives and make a choise after you drove it.
The Merc can look good, but maybe the handling isn't what you expected it to be....I wouldn't know...never drove it myself.. :cry:

But maybe you should enjoy the fact that you now have the opportunity to make as many testdrives as you would like :D

BMW is spelled bimmer not beemer.
Haha oke, don't take it personal :lol:

bimmer = cars
beemer= bikes
One of the few people i know that actually knew that... Bonus point to Renesis!!!

:D what can I buy when I have 5 bonus points?
Well, with 5 points you get a pat on the back, but with 10 you get....

finally someone that understands it the same way i do. the 5 series isnt that bad but its not a 5 series. theres no elegance, not sophistication in it. it looks like it was made with young people in mind, although most wont be able to afford it. the older 5 series looked a bit conservative but it eat mid-sized sedans due to what it had under the hood. sports sedan engine and fun with a stylish, sopshisticated shell to outdo the E-class.

now it looks too aggressive, very cheap, especially on the inside with looks that should be on the 3 series not a 50,000 car, and lost its charater in favor of one that yells, look at this needless design.

A) The 545i is faster than the E500 by a good margin. I dont see how you can say that the 5-Series lacks elegance and sophistication. I guess that is preference, but I still dont see how it lacks sophistication. And how is the E-Class sophisticated? You said it yourself that it was conservative. So how can it be both?

if you want performance.. the 525i and the E320 are not what you want.. if you want comfort.. then the E wins.. the only reason you would want a 5er is for the looks and i mean.. look at it.. IMO its ugly but i guess i am a little biased and its my personal opinion

they dont even sell the 525i here in canada, only the 530i and 545i

oh its the 545 not the 525.. ok i take back my performance comment.. if you want performance get the bmw.. if you want luxury get the merc

btw.. the 545i competes with the E500.. not the E320

jeez, but still the 5

it still beats the e320 in every category
