Bond 25 - "No Time To Die" - due for release April 2020

Maybe I'm the outlier, but I've enjoyed all the Daniel Craig films. They are more planted in reality than some of the camp that came before (looking at you, Moore and Brosnan). I've felt like the Craig films flow together well and are pertinent to the world we live in today, I particularly liked the monopolization of water rather than oil in Quantum of Solace - something that is currently happening by companies like Nestle, but dialed up to super-villain status. Same with the slow reveal of Spectre, the seeds for that were planted in Casino Royale and watching the films back-to-back makes the series very coherent.

I also enjoy the lack of really absurd gizmos; in Casino Royale, Bond didn't use much more than a cell phone with a better screen and camera. There was the explosive key chain and sub-dermal tracking device, but nothing like a watch grappling hook. The miniature defibrillator could have been purchased off-the-shelf at any one of a hundred medical suppliers. In Skyfall, the biggest gadget was how powerful the EPRB was for it's size and the prosthetic worn by Silva to hide his deformity. In Spectre, there are the metal nails worn by Bautista's character, but the strangest was the "smart blood" they injected Bond with.

Overall, not nearly as strange as some of the stuff in previous Bond films. Ironically, one of the most absurd was the "original" Aston DB5 with the machine guns in the bumper.

There are two of us, at least.

I think it's interesting that "Moonraker" has been brought up. The Bond movies never were immune to cynical cash-ins on the trend of the day, in case of Moonraker, Space Opera. So in a way jumping on the diversity bandwagon as a money grab makes sense. Apart from the "black woman" aspect, which annoys me less because it's PC but because it's such an obvious cash-in, I kinda like the idea of moving the Bond series from "exchanging the actor" to "handing over the number 007", establishing a new kind of in-universe continuity.

From a pure practical point of view, I can also imagine Craig, who was very vocal about having enough of the role, made limited screentime/shooting days part of his deal , so they had to do a Doctor Who-Style changeover.

And now, bring on Idris Elba! The Nation Needs You!

???

I’m expecting future films to be completely tepid

bond movies have been utter shit, and deserve no more prestige than a marvel superhero movie, ever since pierce brosnan got the part
and it only went downhill from there

i realy don't get your guys fascination :)

No Bond can be as bad as Moonraker.

Unless it involves a blimp, product placement from Renault and a complete waste of Christoper Walken's talents. Seriously the only good thing about View to a Kill were the theme tune and Alison Doody's bum.

If you ignore the Idris Elba PC bandwagon that's been rolling on for some time I suspect Henry Cavill will be offered the role. Aidan Turner is also a possibility with the outside chance for Richard Madden.

Come on, we all know who is really going to get the role.

Keanu Reeves. Obviously.

Can't blame the production team in that case. Keanu is breathtaking.

Going by the betting odds, Murphy became the Vegas favorite for a while. I didn't even know you could bet on actors filling roles in Vegas, but apparently you can. Not sure what caused that or where the odds stand now.

EDIT: According to this ultra-reputable looking website, Tom Hiddleston has the lead, followed by James Norton, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy.

You can ignore all of the media speculation. When Craig was announced literally nobody saw that coming.

I can't see Hardy getting it, he's too ugly.

Thats why I'm saying Murphy. Take Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders, change up the hair a little, modernize the suites and done.

Or, it would be cool to have a period piece. WWI or 1920s era British intelligence agent.

They tried the whole "period piece" thing with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and it fell on its arse.

They do seem, however, to be doing an early 20th entry in the Kingsman series which looks interesting.

I don't think it was the fault of the concept, but more rather the actors, the writers, the editors and the producers. I couldn't finish that movie.

Interesting. Though those movies are so far over the top for me that I turn them on as what the We Hate Movies podcast calls hangover movies.

If you step back from your fear of being PC and just look at Elba's track record and pose, you will see he would be an awesome Bond.

I have nothing against the idea of Bond being played by an actor of colour - since Bond is an orphan and adopted it would actually fit the canon and overall narrative perfectly. I don't, however, happen to think Elba would be the right actor for the role. The person playing 007 has to have a certain poise and gravitas. He has to be able to wear the tuxedo and make it like he owns it and I just can't see Idris Elba pulling that off, he's just too much of a "geezer". If someone had instead suggested Adrian Lester then I would agree he would be a good Bond, assuming he could do the physical part and make it convincing but that's all stuff that can come with the right teachers.

And I stand by my statement regarding the PC bandwagon. It's just ticking boxes for the sake of it. Instead of shoehorning minority actors into roles that are established as being played by caucasian actors, the industry should be creating more opportunities for actors who are not white, and more importantly stop giving roles that were written about non-white characters to people not of that ethnicity because they fear a loss of box office draw.

But they won't, because as has been seen in recent changes in the political landscape in both the US and the UK it would appear that around half the population, whatever they might say publicly, are inherently xenophobic and racist and the suits who run Hollywood don't want to risk their careers by not maximising their profits.

Even the Bond producers are at it to a certain extent. The last two movies have had godawful theme tunes performed by two people who, as far as I can see, were selected on the basis of their overall popularity at the time rather than any other qualifications.

I actually can see him in the role of Bond. Go watch Pacific Rim. Silly movie, but he's excellent in it.

The first Bond film I saw was probably Goldfinger and I was instantly hooked. I've seen all of them countless times, not only because they keep getting shown here every summer.

However, in recent times I've grown weary of the gimmicks and gizmos, and the farther away a Bond film is from Die Another Day, the better. I actually now view From Russia With Love as my favorite and Dr. No as possibly the second best. I don't much care for the Thunderbirds Are Go style latter Connery stuff, and I prefer The Living Daylights to all Moore films. Even Licence to Kill is pretty good.

As for the OMG SHOCK FEMALE 007, it's probably about the first five minutes and the rest of the film is Craig going ROGUE without the burden of being called 007.

go on....

Personally, I think Elba's appearance in the upcoming Cats movie preeeeeetty much disqualifies him from the Bond role until we can all forget it.

Not linking the preview because creepy as hell.
