Booze thread

One of my clients gave me a bottle of SKYY vodka...

Good Christmas

My family must think im an alcoholic or something

I am half-Scots but in spite of my best efforts I can't develop a taste for the stuff. I can handle pretty much any other spirit (although I don't like anisette drinks much) but Scotch whiskey regardless of type just doesn't do it for me.
Come on get it right - Whisky=Scotch, Whiskey=Irish.

Maybe that's where he's going wrong :dunno: I've got a very nice 25 y/o Laphroaig that I'm desperately trying to save for NY eve...

Had some lovely Rioja red wine at Christmas lunch, followed by a few Glenfiddich and Talisker malt whiskys.

:santa:

For Xmas dinner yesterday, my youngest brother brought a half gallon of egg nog. He was looking for liqueurs to add to it, when mom suggested adding some ButterShots butterscotch flavored schnapps. Being a good son, I decided to follow her advice:

Where has that drink been all my life?

(My brother decided on adding Bailey's to his egg nog. I guess it was good - he didn't complain - but I know my drink was better.)

Anyone who buys Bailey's Irish Cream wants their head examined. There are tons of recipes online for home-made versions that taste better and cost a fraction of the price and the best part is a basic cheap blended whisky is fine.

Oh, I know - I saw the episode of Oz and Hugh Raise the Bar where they made their own.

My mom and stepdad, however, didn't.

Ballachin #5 Marsala Cask Matured:

I'm not a huge fan of peaty Scotch, but when in the right mood I'm game. I like other Ballechin I've tried, and "heavily peated" beckoned. A little sweet, coppery, with a spicy finish. Almost, but not quite like drinking a forest fire.

Good, but I don't think I'm going to polish this bottle off quickly. It'll be a nice one to have on hand.

My other current obsession is Glenmorangie Astar. I had a glass when I was in Orlando on business a few months ago and I'm awe-struck by it. It's on my short list for the next time I re-up at the liquor store.

Currently in my possession:

Just finished; not bad:

Far better than any $22 scotch has the right to be. Very smoky/peaty and absolutely delicious:

I'm usually not a tequila drinker but my parents brought me this from Mexico. I still haven't tried it:

I've never found a brandy/cognac that I liked. I used to drink vodka but not anymore really; only at family gatherings. +1 on CrazyRussian's choice of Russian Standard; great stuff and very affordable; I honestly like it more than Gray Goose and such.

I'm a big gin drinker too.

Favorite when going out:

I'm a huge beer drinker; def not going to list everything I like. I've recently gotten into wine a bit too; preference lies with white.

:)

So, I'm a bartender these days (sometimes, anyway) at a casino. I love making mixed drinks. Too bad most people order just your standard G&T or screwdrivers or plain ass beer (or beer with tomato/clamato...:yucky: ) My own poison of choice is usually vodka, mostly plain mixed with whatever's around to mix it with. Sometimes if I'm feeling creative I'll grab a bottle of flavored vodka or some rum, but I really haven't done much in the way of branching out in terms of what I drink. I do, however, want to start my own liquor collection so I can go all-out bartender for my summer party this year. I'm still deciding what else to stock up my "bar" with aside from vodka, gin, rum, tequila and the like - basically, starting out with the same bottom-shelf well liquors that we have at the casino's bar and working my way up to some other stuff from there.

Get some of this so you can mix genuine Vespers and all the guys can feel like they're 007!

I don't think I've ever seen that in any of the stores around here. And sadly, I doubt any of my friends even know what a Vesper Martini is.

I bought Gin and Vermouth.
Martinis soon.

Needs vodka for Vespers.
3 parts gin
1 part vodka
1/2 part dry white Vermouth

Shake over ice until chilled, strain and serve with a twist of lemon peel.

Then enjoy!

I have vodka. :D

Not Lillet, but dry white Vermouth.

Will report later.

TBH I've had one with Lillet, and made them at home with Noilly Prat but both of those are French which is (I think) the point. Not used an Italian or other vermouth. I also use a full rather than a half measure as I prefer the taste (it's undiluted spirits so dry enough anyway) but experiment to taste.

Just don a tux, enjoy several and then post the resulting pics. ;)

I need to rent one first. :p
