British sports car firm Ultima has set a new world record: its GTR accelerated from 0 to 100mph and then braked back to a standstill in just 9.8 seconds, the first production car to break the 10-second mark in such a test. It accelerated 0-60mph in 2.7 secs, did 0-100 in 5.8secs, and then braked 100-0 in a further 3.8 secs - the first two times also record-setting. The road-legal, factory-built car was driven by Ultima Sports Ltd director Richard Marlow, who said: "Our new world record one again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin."
The record-breaking GTR is powered by a 685 bhp Chevrolet V8 built by American Speed. Marlow added: "We are also currently installing a 640 bhp engine into one of our other demonstrators, to be named the Ultima GTR640 in commemoration of all our existing world records achieved with 640bhp."
