Car magazines: 50 greatest cars of the past 50 years

I think we're going to have to remove your Car-Card for not recognising a Mini...

Bought it today, I left work at 4:30. The person that gives me the most shit was there.
When I whipped out number 38.

The list is coming...

They seem to class an entire car as one series. So Range Rover means all of them etc.

The Fiat 500 did not make the list, thats all i'm saying.

I remember CAR Magazine did something similar for their 500th issue, the 911 won then as well... I'll see if I can find it somewhere the next time I'm at my parents house...

I'm being serious here - the 240 made station wagons popular. It was reliable, with the Turbo it was fairly quick. It was built for nearly 20 years. It created/reshaped the image of the family car. If you are going to have stuff like the Focus, 2CV, Panda, Renault 5 in there, you might as well include the 240. Not a great driver's car, but its impact was just as big as these other ones.

Where did it make wagons popular? They used to be a lot more popular here, and long before the 240.

I've owned 6 of the cars on that list. :D

Mk1 Golf GTi (Well GLS with a 1.8i engine swap)
Renault 5 TC
Fiat Multipla
BMW 5 Series (briefly, hated it)
Impreza Turbo
MX5

And I still want a Citroen DS and/or a 205 GTi and was obsessed by the Interceptor from the age of 8.

Same story here, the VW Typ 3 and Typ 4 each sold half of their total production as estates. The Typ 3 estate was introduced a year before the Amazon estate, five years before the 140 estate, and 13 years before the 240 estate.

As for the list, it lacks both the Typ 1 and Typ 2 :shakefist:

#1 FTW.

List has Evo, Quattro, F40 and Elise; is totally valid (...for coco to drool at).

It's just missing the Type 3 Fastback...in lilac. :bunny:

What is the Alfasud doing in that list?

"It was a trendsetter, laying the foundations for the new breed of hatchbacks, including the VW Golf. Even though it was a saloon.
Great handling, it's an accomplished rust bucket."

Still doesn't make sense to me as the Austin 1100 did most of that ten years before. Otherwise, the list is pretty complete in my opinion.

The Renault 4 AND the Renault 5??

Alrighty then :D

Also WTF about the Fiat Multipla??

I don't remember seeing my first E-Type.
But, I remember where I was when I saw the first BMW Mini, I also remember where I was when I saw the Multipla. I was in shock when I saw it, but it's grown on me.

The Multipla looks like the byproduct of radiation exposure...
