I'm guessing there's people from a lot of different countries on here and I'm interested to know how much cars cost in various places. I live in the UK and I think we have some of the most expensive cars (especially compared to America!). So how much do cars cost new in your country?

Here's some typical ones from here in the UK (to get US$ roughly x by 2):

VW Golf GTi mkV ~ ?20,000
BMW X5 4.4 V8 ~ ?48,000
Honda Civic Type R ~ ?16,000
Perodua Kelisa (cheapest new car on sale - absolute shed) ~ ?5,000

Should be interesting to see how much they cost in other countries...

Apologies if this has been done before by the way - I'm new!

Easy one here in Egypt:
Golf GTi: n/a
BMW X5: n/a
Civic Type R: n/a
Preodua kelisa: we get it :D around 45K EGP, divide by 8 for euros it's around 6K euros
But keep in mind that the average monthly income among the well-doing ppl that I know here hovers around the 100euro mark

Those specific cars in Finland.

Golf GTI 38.000? ~ ?26.000
BMW X5 4.4 Automatic 102 000? ~ ?71.000
Honda Civic Type R 30 000? ~ ?21.000

So stop whining, in UK cars seems to be cheap

You can easily find out the prices for the US, they're available on the manufacturer's website. A small research shows:
Golf GTI 1.8T manual (2005 model seems to be mk4): $19,510 (base MSRP)
X5 4.4 Base MSRP $52,800
Civic Type R: seems n/a closes is Civic Si @ $19,320
Perodua Kelisa, in the US, are you kiddin me? :)

Golf GTI 1.8T -- $27,600 CDN --) 12,000 pounds
BMW X5 4.4i -- $71,700 CDN --) 31,000 pounds

Cheapest car is something from KIA here.

Kia Rio S -- $13,000 CDN --) 5,600 pounds :)

I think the dutch cars are the cheapest in europe if you don't include the tax.

Of course you have to include the taxes, that's exactly why cars in Finland and many other countries are so darn expensive.

From Germany you can buy cars very cheap as they keep so low car taxes.

It's all relevative though, it's simply an unfair comparison. For example if you earned ?200 p/w in England, you'd be on $200 p/w in America for the same job, there's no use comparing - it's ok saying that everything is cheaper in America, but it's simply not true.

A good example comes from America's lovely past time - eating at McDonalds :)

Over there they have the 99cents menu, whereas we have the 99p menu - catch my drift?

Norway:
Golf GTI : 47,625? - 63,490$ - 33,138?
BMW X5 4.4 : 132,707? - 176,911$ - 92,338?
Civic type-r : 45,658? - 60,789$ - 31,730?

We don't have cheap cars here, only expensive cars and very expensive cars

Nah i mean, if you would take off all the government tax, the cars would be the cheapest in holland. The manufactorers keep the price lower to stay competative.

^ throw it through a translator :)

Yeah that's kinda the point I was making...... The price doesn't change, it's just the currency that does (if that makes sense). Still an interesting comparison if you ask me. Are you sure about the wages being the same though? (?200=$200 for same job)

Still... Good for us 'cause American stuff is cheap to us :D

The wierd thing is, its not for computer stuff (it may be the tax or transport costs, i'm not sure) . A 6600gt costs 200 dollars, and here in holland its 200 euros, yet the dollar is considerably less than the euro.

Aren't the "Bruto" prices kept low? Netto is after taxes..

Actually, as it stands now, you should multiply by 1.91 to get USD. With numbers this high, it really does matter!

I can agree to that ...... it's the taxes/fees on the engine size that are insane. A BMW 540i i.e. is 1/3 more expensive than the 520i ... almost ...

I can't understand how you can tolerate such prices.
Well okay, Norway is about the richest country there is so with your wages you can afford it :)

To get UK prices to Malaysian prices we usually multiply by around TEN to get a very very rough estimate if the prices are below ?30,000. Anything above that, the multiplyer fluctuates somehow or rather. We have excise duty which changes depending on displacement and fuel type.

well, what are you gonna do?

It's true that we make more money per say than the average nations wages ... but we pay hella taxes on that as well so, I think it adds up to each other ...

Importing cars is a money saver tho .. byt the average Norwegian don't bother with that ... .... but those don't deserve to whine about taxes either ..
