Okay, I totally get going tent camping here or going RV'ing, but how the hell do Europeans find it fun to go somewhere and stay in a thing the size of a TINY tent trailer?

BTW, for those of you not in the states, this is what people use here to go camping, a trailer:

or an motorhome:

we used to have a big huge trailer, then we went to a tent trailer, and I can see why the europeans like them, they're much easier to manouver and you can get to more places. now we just use a tent, so we can pretty much go anywhere

Viper, This is America.....we haveto do things bigger....plus with the average size of the american today...they wont even fit in the sardine cans they use in Europe

 Valid points duke.

Not all Americans have those huge trailers. When I go camping in Maine, I see people with huge buses and giant trailers, but I see people with small trailers and popups too.

ROFL at dukenukem's comment

Over here in Aus, we tend to have smaller caravans, but we do take our camping quite seriously - large land mass with small population means that one can still die out in the 'bush', but you have to try. Usually it is with a fully laden four wheel drive and tents, - we have very few places that get snow, so can set up a bed almost anywhere.

I regularly go camping , even in winter since it hardly ever drops below zero celsius here and the wide open spaces of this country is one of the things I love about it.

Would be nice to do it in style like you Seppos though, those are some big ass caravans.

what i think is the size of the trailors has something to do with the kinda people who use it...for instance, here a whole bunch or retirees use it formonths on end to rtavel cross country ..so for them they need more spacious accomodations...but in europe they use more for weekend trips so there practicality is more important....

just my 2 cents

WTF Viper! lots of people have smal caravans or mobile tents even in USA and Canada

Yeah, I know, I go tent camping all the time, but I either see people with a tent or an RV pretty much. Did you watch the "JC Meets The Neighbours" for when he meets the Dutch? It looked as if that was the only thing they ever used. :|

Yeah but they're weird.. I mean 40% of them do caravanning!!!

I'm sure it's under 10% here

^^Agreed^^

I hate those big-ass camperthingies as much as the next guy.

Take the Germans for instance; they come over to Norway on a ferry with their mobile-homes, slap a moose-sticker on every surface on their vehicles and on they go.
You guys might think: hey, what about all the money those tourists let behind! Ok, listen to this: they bring their own food, their own water/drinks/softdrinks/alcohol and all they leave behind is the crap from their portable crapper.

I really dislike them..

kindda like when norwegans and swedes visit Denmark. talking nonsence and drinking all our beers and alcohol

but we enjoy paying those prices, and we leave lots of money to the box. Can't justify the behaviour though ..
