Cars your family has owned over the years

Imagine seeing that fly past you instead of a Civic or Audi RS4.

I've seen a Ford Econoline van fly by me while I was doing 90mph once.

Parents' cars:
Those a bit before my time (I'm the youngest) / before we moved to the US:
Jaguar Mark V - Dad's restore project, alas not much of a family car, SOLD.
Volvo 200 series - Kamikaze kangaroo took it out.

Here are the ones I have some memory of:

1980s GMC Minivan - Dad hated it with a passion, SOLD.
1980s Honda Accord, Dad hated it with a passion, this is the first and last japanese car he ever bought, SOLD.
1980s Ford Taurus Wagon - Wasn't that great but was about a million times better than the Honda, died in Wyoming when we moved up to WA in '94.
1994 Mercury Sable, this was bought new at the town the Taurus died in (coincidence?). It had the 3.8L v6 was a reliable car, sold a couple years back.
1996 Ford Taurus (Roger Dean styled one) bought in 2000, was amazingly reliable even though it had a horrid drive as it was the base model, SOLD.
2000 Ford Taurus bought in 2003 or so, horrible horrible car, base model, transaxel light constantly on, SOLD.
1996 Roadmaster, bought around 2005 or so, it's a station wagon with a fucking LT1, 'nuff said.
2007 Pontiac Torrent, ugh. My mom should never be left alone to buy a car.

Mine:
1986 Lincoln Towncar, despite its castrated v8 it was a great starter car, I could crash into anything and it would win, SOLD.
1989 Subaru GL - Horrible horrible car, a 70's era Mercedes sent this to hell, CRASHED.
1991 Ford Escort GT - Awesome car, my first stick. It weighed less than air, and was a blast to drive, SOLD.
1994 Volvo 850 Turbo - Fun car, was a bit of a money pit however, SOLD.
1997 Ford Mustang GT - see my car thread.

Jesus, your dad got the diesel bug early. Was the 505 an Estate ? they were great, I knew someone who had one.

In fact, he can't buy anything but diesel...
We are thinking differently on it...

It wasn't an estate version, that was a metallic green sedan...
...good old Peugeot's diesel engine: no power but unbreakable
:D

And lastly, the coolest car ever, the one my father bought for 400 bucks when he came right off the plane:

$2k for that thing? Damn, I blame inflation. I wish I had a $400 beater that I could toss the keys in a trash can when it gets impounded, like my father did.

We had a Tercel that cost us $300, when we forgot to top off the coolant and my dad overheated it, he just abandoned it on the side of the freeway.

All an exotic car owner can talk about with his car is how much technology is in it, and how fast it is, but the beater owner is the only one who can say "cool, but I get free towing... abandon it and it becomes the states problem."

1. Where did you find an X-Trail in North America? First I've heard of it.

Regarding the source... *cough astonmartinpics cough*.

I think you mean Xterra, Mopar Man? Those two are very different vehicles, the Xterra is based on the Frontier frame, and the Xtrail is based on....who the hell knows, it is not sold here.

I came across a few XTrails in Arizona. Don't know where the hell they came from, maybe Mexico? I don't know. There are quite a few testing grounds here...

I've been noticing quite a few cars during the summer months here with Mexico plates, thanks to the new guest worker program we have.

We are china immigrants, so don't expect anything larger than 2.0L :p
One car replaces the next, so we have 1 car at each point of time.

Over the years my father had quite a variety of cars , although in his single days he rode motor cycles, having had (as far as I know) a BSA (mdel unknown) and a Triumph Twin. The first car he had was a BSA three-wheeler, followed by a pre-war Rover 10, which is the first of his cars that I have any recollections of. After we came to Australia in 1958 he had the following cars:
  • Hillman Minx Mk VIII
  • Hillman Minx Series II (although at this point he apparently considered a second-hand Ford Customline)
  • Jowett Javelin
  • Citroen DS21
  • Austin Freeway Station Wagon
  • Austin 1800 Mk I
  • Holden Premier (HT)
  • Audi Fox (the worst and most unreliable car he ever had)
  • Ford Escort Ghia Mk II
  • Mitsubishi Sigma 2.6

VW 411 - all Porsche 911 drivetrain tweaked to over 300 hp

#3 1987 VL Calais .....a few years on, a bit more mature....All Turbo bits and the like, has had so many engine combo's in it its not really funny....It is my day to day hack now....so I kinda trying to keep it standardish.....
