Challenge/Special ideas

Here's a new spin on an old idea. This will go nowhere, but I thought that I'd share it anyway.

Holley Motorette to Bradford, Pennsylvania.

While there, the trio could go around and see how much isn't left of what was Bradford in its heyday and also stop by places like the Zippo/Case Museum, American Refining Group (which now occupies what was originally the Kendall Motor Oil Refinery), the various mansions that are still standing, GlenDorn (which occupies the spot that was the Nusbaum Chemical Co., a company that began in Titusville, Pennsylvania with the start of the oil boom... Once well-known Bradford resident and shop owner, Al Nusbaum, a son of the man who was responsible for the company's name, flew a P-47 in the European theater during WWII), what is left of what was the Pennzoil building (originally the Dresser office building), and the locations where the Holley's built their vehicles.

I've been trying to come up with something to go along with this, but have been having a lot of trouble because I often find myself thinking of China as a totalitarian police state where people go to get imprisoned and executed.

I had been thinking of using the Andy Wilman as the evil villain sending the trio places idea, and combining that with a Jason Bourne meets Memento meets a kid getting thrown a set of car keys meets The Grand Tour.

I pictured Wilman getting the three presenters drunk in a pub in England, shuffling them off into cabs with 3 women who may or may not be prostitutes, then having the three presenters wake up the next day in the Chinese copycat cities. Hammond would of course have to wake up in Paris, May in Thames Town, and Clarkson in Jackson Hole. All three would find a DVD on the dresser in the room where they wake up, which they would assume had something to do with the night before. Next to the DVD would be a set of keys and a note from Wilman challenging the presenters to get out of the country. The one who makes it to the airport first would not have the content of their DVD made public. I pictured a Citroen SM being left for Hammond in Paris, a 92-95 Ford Taurus SHO being left for Clarkson in Jackson Hole, and a Lotus Carlton being left for May in Thames Town.

I had thought of a lot more to add in to this, but I think that I'll just leave it here.

Gennargentu National Park in Sardinia. I said that I would drop the bike stuff, but this could be really good with motorcycles.

it's not
(a large amount of our oxygen comes from there 20%, if you believe this)

it does not...
the rainforest generates a huge amount of oxygen, but it contains so much life that it's all used locally, it's not spread over the world.
what it does do however, is evaporate large amounts of water, which comes down in the Andes as rain, eroding the soil and feeding the Atlantic with nutrients, which the phytoplancton uses to grow, generating the oxygen we use in europe

Trans Euro Trail

I suspect that James May might have already seen this. I should also thank Harry Metcalfe for something that's entertaining to post in this thread.

Instead of motorcycles, I picture this being done with things like a Unimog.

Because I grew up in a place where there was a lot of oil drilling, well pumping, and logging, I share Spectre's fascination with diesel Ford F-350s (they were often used out on the lease roads.) Not to get way too specific with a concept that's unlikely to be used, but a mid-90s 7.3 liter F-250 or F-350 regular cab 4x4 would be fun to see for what's probably a very small group of people.

They would often look like this, with the skinny oem wheels and tires, a 6-speed manual, and some kind of black and yellow module on the underside of the middle of the dash.

A trip to some of the UK's ghost towns. The three presenters would have to choose the vehicle that they feel is best for both the journey and for exploring the ghost towns. Hammond could be on a BMW GS Adventure while Farmer Clarkson could drive a Ford Ranger Super Cab with a trailer that houses a Honda Pioneer 700-2. May could be in the type of vehicle that an inhabitant of a city might imagine would work well in the country. I picture this as being something like the Fiat Panda Cross 4X4.

The article I posted a link to encourages readers to explore these places using Google Maps or Google Earth. This show could include some kind of interactive item like that to allow the viewers to feel more involved.

World's Slowest Race

In an effort to become the most boring person in the world, I have been watching CruisingTheCut and Abbie Barnes / Spend More Time In The WILD. Watching these two shows has given me what is possibly the least vehicularly based idea I've ever posted.

A race could occur between two ramblers and a narrowboat. Two presenters would have to hike, backpack, and camp, while one presenter would pilot a narrowboat to the destination. This race would be more entertaining if there were a tremendously valuable prize, something that the presenters would be willing to fight for, to be collected at the end by the winner. The rambling presenters could start out working together, but as they near the end they could start actively working against each other. If they cross the path of the narrowboater, they could attempt to slow their progress as well. This could also be made more entertaining if there was some sort of time limit.

http://narrowboatinfo.co.uk/how-fas... speed limit on canals, miles an hour, or less.

This idea is completely impractical. The worst part is the timing.

Recently, Clarkson had written an article about his desire for a classic car. Every year, there are a number of classic car races. This year, Castle Combe will have "a two-day festival to mark the circuit's 70th birthday."

https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/race-days/autumn-classic-racing-festival

Each presenter could be given a list of cars in a certain class to choose from. Each presenter would then have to buy a car, prep it, and drive it in a race. Since they would all be racing in the same class, they could know that they would be competing directly against each other. I doubt that it would be possible to drive the cars to the race track, but if it is, this would be ideal. The purchasing and prepping of the cars could be three separate videos that would focus on each presenter and their car, while the race could be one item featuring moments from all three presenters. This idea could feature people like Harry Metcalfe, Tiff Needell, and Iain Tyrrell.

I saw an article that I thought should go with this.

Because I keep reading that The Grand Tour is having difficulty finding an exotic location to "tour," I've been trying to come up with a remote British overseas territory that they could travel to. What I've come up with is St. Helena, which, to me, seems like a possibility.

I thought that this could be an opportunity for the presenters to drive the new Land Rover Defender, and the new Ford Bronco. I have also been considering that a presenter could start out in something like a Tesla model Y, but then ultimately end up riding a horse.

I would like to see them using a Grand Tour or off roading adventure across a country using the new Defender, Ford Bronco and a Jeep Wrangler JL. Or maybe a cheap 4x4 challenge like the Top Gear Bolivian Special. Either one would be epic.

Here's a new spin on an old idea. This will go nowhere, but I thought that I'd share it anyway.

I find it hard to believe that I didn't provide a link to Dresser (https://dresserutility.com/about-us/) when I originally put this up. Oh well.

I guess that in the previous post I called something ironic that isn't ironic. I'll just blame it on the fact that I once crashed a bicycle so badly that I broke the helmet that I was wearing, fractured my cheek bone, and separated one of my clavicles in two places. Though, the truth of the matter probably is that I was born this way.

If the Amazon Rain Forest fires get put out before the end of humanity (a large amount of our oxygen comes from there, 20% if you believe this) perhaps The Grand Tour can go on an expedition there to plant trees. Teddy Roosevelt went there before it burned https://www.pbs.org/video/into-the-amazon-u5lrzc/

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/30/world/americas/amazon-rainforest-fires-climate.html

I saw something in the news last night that I thought should be part of this.
