As the topic states, I'm looking for a pair of cheap headphones for to use with my iPod. I want something that's like $20 or so... nothing out of the ordinary. I'd prefer in-ear ones. So I guess I'm looking for earphones and not headphones.

Not that the ones that come with the ipod are that good, but I don't think you can beat them with a $20 headphones.
If you can up that a bit to $30 (yeah I know that's a 50% increase) you can look for a sony one on sonystyle.com I've had 2 sony headphones and was very pleased with the sound quality of both of them. It's no sennheiser, but it'll do the job very decently and for the price I can't think of anything better.

The link I posted is sony. Is that similiar to the one you are referring to? They are $22.99 at newegg.

BTW, your sig looks a bit large on my res (1024x768) It's shows the third image on a second row ;)

I think even $20 headphones are better than what the iPod comes with... plus I don't like that look and they don't fit my ears well.

That sony Jeffy posted looks good, but retails for $60 CDN for some reason...

Yeah, now I see you posted about a Sony one. I never tried any of the fontopia series myself, the ones I tried were the MDR-G57G and the MDR-G57SL.
But my general advice would be not to use an in-the-ear phones if you're planning on using it for several hours at a time, I find them very tiresome after a few minutes.

The Street-style series is also better suited to listening during sports activities or when at the gym, they tend to stay in their place and not interfere with a helmet if you're on a bike (or your hair do for that matter)

P.S.
Sorry about the sig, thanks for letting me know. I had to let go of the pic of my first car :( Hope it is not too inconvenient now.

It'll be for short walks to class and stuff... I have it hooked up to my car for the drives.

;)

No need to apologize -- It looks really good  I just wanted to let you know before a mod yelled at you or something

i have these and i love them. the only weird thing about them is the wires split off weird and the right earbud tends to get knocked out easily.

The new mod SL65~2millionBHP~LOL~W00T!!!!!!!... look out, because there's a good chance he'll reprimand you and then be reprimanded himself for having wrongfully reprimanded you.

I dunno, I was trying to be funny. 8)

wow, well in that case, double thunmbs up bro  Nice work indeed

lol @ Shawn, thought you were talking about SL65 the car. What was I thinking assuming you'd be talking about cars around here

Be careful with the Sony in ears, though. I had a pair with which I was totally satisfied and used them on a everyday basis for nearly five years. Then the right one got damaged and couldn't cope with high volumes any more, so I replaced them with another set of Sony in earphones which had an awful lack of treble. But if you're looking mainly for bass they rock :)

Edit: just looked up the current ones: Sony MDR-ED 31

i would also bet on a sony fontopia series headphone. i got a MDR-E818LP from J&R for less than $9!! it sounds about 10x better than the headphones ipods come with. the difference i immediately noticed is in the bass. it sounds full and solid, not flat like that on the ipod headphones. i've owned em for over 3 months now and they still sound as good as the day i bought em!

Actually word in the audiophile world is headphones sound _better_ with usage. Many believe headphones need some breaking in to sound their best.
Of course they're usually talking of headphones that cost several hundred dollars, but still :)

i always fancied a pair of in-ear ones, like the Playgear stealth

they are made for the PSP, so will be great with a 'pod. i'm not sure if they're sold in the US, but they are ?13 here. they cut out loss in noise, so if you listen to crap music (?), no one can take the piss out of you, cos they can't here it

I bought a pair of Sony earphones for $9.99CAD a while ago, and they're better than the ones that came with the iPod. I bought the cheapest earphones available at Sony b/c people are grabbing iPods these days, and the first thing they look for is the trademark white earphones. I got a pair of black phones now, so hopefully I'll be safer when taking the bus/subway to school.
