Jeremy Clarkson has well documented his Hate for all things BMW recently, especially the styling of the 5-Series and the i-Drive system (Which as bad as the journos may make it seem, isn't that bad after an hour or two of getting used to) and personally, I'm a fan of the new 5, especially the M5's styling. Please leave your 2 bob's worth in the poll.

JC said recently, 'The M5, I think, may very well be my next car. I absolutely love it.'

Now JC sounds like he's willing to go back on his HATE for i-Drive and the 5, and may even buy one. Which brings me to my point, if there is THAT much to hate about the M5, that little M button must do magical things.

Oh to drive that car.

Here's the link to the story, it's worth a look: http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2005/08/stories/02/1.html

I like the look of the car but for all the shit that JC said about it... the pushing of the M button still wouldn't take it over the line for me.

:stupid:

Not that your stupid Leppy, just the easiest way to agree :p

All of the complaining about the computer part of the car JC did could be fixed if you spent a minute to read up on what everything does. Sat-nav woman can be turned off and the volume buttons are on the opposite side of the steering wheel. He didn't need to go into the computer to change the radio station, he could just press the "down" button for the "volume" control. It was a scripted act and not a badly designed interior.

Every other week his opinion on various cars changes drastically so don't take his words to heart, it's just entertainment.

IMO he should get another car that will ruin him even further. It should be fun too see him order another Ferrari just to realise that he can't drive it due to his physical condition when he takes delivery next season. I surely would miss his ramblings if he would choose a car that actually works*.

*Poster is bound to say so due to geographical reasons. ;)

Well JC has ALWAYS liked the M5, he said that on TG the other week and also it's listed in his top 100 best cars of all time, there he raves on about how wonderful it is. At present, he is just jumping on the popular bandwagon over the new styling. Shame really, you'd think someone like him would have the guts to go against what other motoring press think. Personally, I love the new M5 especially in blue. (although you knew that already).

When you think of what JC has said he wants in a car and givien his current medical condidtion, then the M5 is the ideal car for him. It is a car that is fast and powerful enough for him and unlike most other cars in it's class (that are all sports cars) he can get in and out of it with ease. On the Power Lap times, "the only cars above it are all supercars" to quote the man himself. He'll get used to the I-Drive and the other buttons.

After all he said that it's a car that says, "arrh look at me, I'm a fast car, I'm a powerful car" and from what I can tell from JC's personality if ever there was a car that was an expression of that personality, then it would be an M5.

Knowing JC and how he twists things, then if he buys one, he will undoubtedly come up with something to justify it's looks and other things people have said about it and turn it around to be, the best car in the world. (and lets face it, thats not a hard job, because it dam near is already)

Easy there Top Gear Girl!! Clarkson has said he has always liked the M5, but BMW has only recently departed from its once tastefully sedate styling habits. Now you are quite obviously incredibly M5 biased so please look at things from an objective standpoint. JC hates the 5 series styling. He loathes it. I have read no article and watched no video that involves the 5 series where he has not taken a passing shot at the styling. 'The headlights look like Edna Everages glasses.' He may be 'jumping on the popular bandwagon' but that is definately his true opinion. No doubt.

Steady on about the way you relate to a TV star, too. You make it sound like you know JC personally, and that, is worrying. Sounds more like obsession. A positive 40s married man is not somone to obsess over. Not like 'that'.

And in relation to the car being an extension of his personality? I think if he wants the M5 to be an extension of his personality, he'll buy an M6. Now that is a car I'd like to drive.

Hmm, I dunno... What on earth could possibly be wrong with the 5 series styling??? Maybe it is because you guys aren't as used to it as I am. Seems like every second car on the street is an E60 round my place. And I saw it maybe a year and a half driving around before it was sold... BMW country here... I liked its looks a bit back then, but they have SOOO grown on me, and now I adore it...
The optical changes they made for the M5 make even more merry...

At least the poll outcome (at this point) are in my favour...

x2, though i dont even like the styling of it

dont like the car, price is ridiculous, waiting list of 2 years as well... :?

^^ 2 years are only for the UK...
I doubt you would have to wait much longer than 3 month in Germany...

obviously i wouldnt go for a european 4door sport saloon, but if i had to, i would rather get an brabus ev12 ;)

now that of course is quite pricey, and the ev12 itself is built in a very limited series, and is available only as a complete car. but i'd go for simple e class, and get just the engine upgrade for about 40,000euros, and that would be about the same price as an m5. :)

I'd pay the extra money and get the CLS55AMG cos it simply isnt an annoying car like the M5. That extra 200NM of torque also proved to be helpful on the track because with all that extra BHP, the M5 only just beat it ;)

As for the M5 styling, well put it this way, if I pay X-amount of dollars, I want people to know it. I want my car to scream "MONEY!!"

An scream Money, the M5 does, very well. As good a job as the CLS55? I'd say yes. The CLS55 is far more understated than the M5.

^^ DITTO as hell... All the CLS look the same (not saying that they look bad, not at all!), the M5 really stands out of the 5 series crowd...

Plus: The CSL has the same engine as the SL 55, right? 476 hp?
I don't belive it. They had to change their tech sheet, because all the SL55 turned out more than 500 hp.
My guess: The CLS also has 500 hp-ish...

WOW the vote is getting close, it seems the M5 really does divide opinion!!

Interestingly, after watching this weeks ep, I can't help but wonder whether Jeremy will buy an M5, or a BMW at all for that matter. He was like a schoolboy when he mentioned that AMV8 Vantage. Now that's well within the price range (he just got over 120,000 pounds back from Ford) and the way he went on and on defying the embargo currently in place on that knowledge.

Somehow I think Jeremy Clarkson's next car will be an AMV8 Vantage.

As a side note, I wonder if he'll get a Monaro as a plaything. He liberally declared his love for it on the ep, and considering the amount of time left to buy one before Holden stops making them, it may be a thought to consider. It could even fill the gap between now and the Aston, considering the Monaro's impending doom, it may get good resale from the buyers who miss out...

Hmmm, I think you have taken what I have said too literally, some of it wasn't seroius, he is old enough to be my dad!

Don't bother to chat me up unless you can afford to buy me a new M5......Jezza do you want my number honey? ;)

omg, here we go again

^^ That leads me to the question: How old are you? ;-)

I was really surpirsed how Jeremy's entire attitude towards the M5 took a complete turn around as soon as he hit the M button
