Nice parking

^ Hey, I'm good at parallel parking (and I can spell it too :p )

bah..

parall?le

yeah.. same thing as in french I just fucked up.

But to be honest I hate parking, I want it quick and don't give a shit about style points. I've never did a back-up parking or a parallel parking since my driving classes 1.5 year ago

I parallel park so often its like singalling to make a left turn, it becomes second nature, and I think thats how parallel parking, no, thats how every aspect of driving should be. I was appauled at how easy it was to get a drivers license in the US, parallel park without touching the curb, drive around the block, stop at a red and pay the 25 buck, voila! instantly licensed!

And those theory questions!?!?!

"you are heading for a red light. Do you:
A. Come to a gradual stop before the light
B. Speed up
C. Hit the guy on the curb
D. Mark a U turn

In Florida, you don't need to parrallel park to pass the test. And it's only $20 last time I checked. Different states have different laws, I think New York requires you to parrallel park.

Yes New York makes you parallel park followed by a 3-point turn. I am taking drivers education for it right now, its actually quite easy, but New York department of motor vehicles doesn't get the point that you will never need to parallel park again in your driving career. But whatever, its easy.

Parallel park? I could have never passed if that was part of the test. Mine was to drive down the street, bang a right at some lights, back up a bit (which I didn't do because my cop supervisor was too busy playing with a pen), and three-point it back to headquarters (the driving school). What a joke, but hey, it got me a license.

That was two years ago; there's always rumors that the test will be made harder and you'll have to go on the highway and parallel park (not at the same time) and whatnot, but they've been saying that for years. The Big Dig will be done before that ever happens. And the Big Dig will never be freaking completed.

No wonder people drive like crap and there's always an accident every day during rush hour.

Comparing to your tests, getting a license in Brazil is pretty hard.
You have to take 60 hours of classes and pass a written test. If you suceed, you must take 20 hours of practice with an instructor and pass the test wich is: Drive around, stop in an uphill, launch the car from a standstill in that uphill without stalling or screeching tires, parallel park and garage park.Whew! After all or this and about 500 bucks you have a license!

I parrallel parking. I failed my first time (not due to bad parking), but I past my second time.

Yes that is a serious problem with getting your license here, it all depends on the mood and the "judge" you get. You can be the worst driver, but if the judge is in a good mood you will pass. If you are the best driver and do everything perfectly but the judge is in a bad mood you will fail. Basically its not how well you drive but how the judge feels. No joke either.

HEHEH, that's a pisser. I am SOOOO going to try it...

There is no P-park test out here either, as you don't really need to know it. There are good lots around most of the city and you don't need that in the suburbs except for around renting complexes.

So from reading this most of the americans wouldn't get a lisence in Finland.
Or in Sweden for that matter.

I only dont have a Bus lisence I got everything else.
I drive big rigs for work and in the army I driven everything except for tanks and boats.

I don't think the problem in the US (Florida especially) is that people don't know how to drive, but rather, they learn to drive to get their liscense, and like many a high school class, forget everything once they've passed. Or they'll blatently ignore common sense laws, or figure that they're in such a rush that pissing off half of everyone on the road is justified. People just get impatient and pushy pushy so they can be the first one to get pulled over by smokey bear.

Even if there was a teleportation device that could get you to and from work instantaneously, it would still be too slow for these impatient assholes. They'll ride your ass when driving through the neighborhood, but yell at you to slow down if you do the speed limit past their house (yes, someone has done just that to me...)
