If its not too much trouble for you guys who have the animated avatars, maybe you could throw them all in this thread? I love using them in my LJ, and it'd be cool to have them in one spot and with the creater's names so I can credit them. :)

Actually this raises another issue that I had. What program do people use to make their gifs? I've tried several but they were never really that good.

And do people know where I can get it, be it legally or not.

Darn! I just got that, installed fine, but when I run it it crashes when loading all those files at the start. :(

I seem to have trouble with Ulead products. There DVD making stuff is quite good, but it slow to load and crashes when I do somethings.

Any other suggestions?

Hold on, (sorry off topic) the cars you drive...does that mean you OWN them?

I don't own them...my parents do, or more correctly I guess my father does.

That is why I chose to use "cars I drive".

But then again he doesn't really own them as we lease them, that way they are tax deductible and at the end of the 2 year lease we can replace them with new one, as we are about to do with the S & E class.

Who is buying an E-Class if you have an S-Class? That makes no sense...

I didn't mean literally... I just meant to ask why you'd buy a lesser car when you have a better one?

Yeah, but if you can have cars for all the family, why not?
But I hope he doesn't get another E. If he wants to keep with Mercedes, why not the CLS?

Exactly...it would be the perfect opportunity to do just that...we would love to trade out E for a CLS but my dad is not inclined to pay a lot more money for something thats more or less the same   :(

You guys have hit it right on the head.

The GT is the "fun car", the S-600 is big impressive executive car for my Dad, the E-500 is for when my Mum drives because she doesn't like the S class because it is too large, can be quite confusing with all the "toys" and far too powerful.

At this stage we (which means me, as I'm the one who knows about cars) are thinking of replacing the E with a CLS as I think it is much more stylish and adaptable, but I agree with SL65 in that it is priced quite poorly as the car is far more expensive then an E class and that isn't taking into account that with Mercedes practically everything cool is an "optional extra"?even an alarm!

I am also looking at replacing the S class with either a Bentley Flying Spur (1st choice), which I test drove in Adelaide earlier this year, or maybe a Maserati Quattroporte. I'd most likely go with the Bentley as I love the GT and again it has much more style and class then the S class (although I'm yet to see the new S in person, which does look quite nice) and is also far more exclusive and stands out, as in London every 3rd car is an S class and you can only tell that it is a S-600 is for pay attention and know what to look for.

Alarm should be standard. I only realized that my car doesn't have one after I already got it. I asked the dealer to progam the remote so it "beeps" when I lock it....they told me it can only do that if i had an alarm...i was like "um, I don't have an alarm?".....all that money and they can't put an alarm, go figure....

oh, and screw bentley...push for the new ferrari 8)

*Edit*

and how about posting some pics of your rides?

screw bentley...push for the new ferrari

Which one are you talking about?

I'm thinking of pushing for another car for me. I think I'd like an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. They look small, sporty and sexy. Far nicer then a 911. Except the wait list is already meant to be until 2007. :(

I'd love a DB9, except I don't think I could convince them to spend that kind of cash on a car they would hardly get to drive. :p

all that money and they can't put an alarm, go figure

That is exactly what I thought the first time I read the Mercedes brochures. I buy a small city car and I get an alarm, I buy an expensive "luxury" car and they charge me. I think they do it because they know a majority of owners will pay for it. God knows I did, I'm not leaving my car sitting around without even an alarm, but then again, as Jeremy could attest to, an alarm isn't always a good thing. :p

Firstly, what series Monaro have you got...oh err and CLK55?
but I agree with SL65 in that it is priced quite poorly
Secondly, I didnt say that...I said that MY DAD wasnt inclined to pay more for something that isnt HUGLY diffrent to what he is driving now...If anything, I think (in Australia) the CLS is priced very well. There are very few options that are gadget related on the base CLS350
then the S class (although I'm yet to see the new S in person, which does look quite nice) and is also far more exclusive and stands out,
I cant wait to see it. Its coming in May next year to Aus and we will definatly test drive...maybe then dad will upgrade :p

I was about to tell you to sell everything and get a CLS55 AMG...but a Flying Spur  Thats some serious status symbol! But the Flying Spur is very similar to the GT...
and how about posting some pics of your rides?
Yeh that would be a good thing to do rite now

Monaro & Caprice are either VZ, or whatever the new ones are.

to pay more for something that isnt HUGLY diffrent

That is what I am getting at. An E-500 is $157,900 whilst a CLS-500 is $175,900. That is about $20,000 extra for largely the same car. They charge more because it is new and sexy. I'm not denying that it is a nice car, and as I said I will probably get one, but I think Mercedes need to take a look at their pricing, especially considering the pricing of their competitor, BMW, Audi, Jaguar etc.

That said looking at the spec list for the CLS-350 it does seem pretty well "stocked" for the $137,900 price tag. I think it is mainly the CLS-500 that is poorly priced. Over $30,000 extra for a V8 engine, different wheels, suspension, a sun roof and a TV tuner (which can all be selected as options on the 350).

Flying Spur, thats some serious status symbol! But the Flying Spur

It may seem extreme, but when you consider we are already paying for an S-600, which when optioned costs over AUD $375,000, for a car that looks like just about every other car in the neighbourhood (and isn't really that great car) I would much rather pay a little bit more for a far nicer, more exclusive and truly sportier car.

As for pics, I'm sad to say I'm currently in Adelaide so don't have access to the "big toys". That is why I would like to get a V8 Vantage here.

I'll will be heading back to London at the end of the year. I'm planning to go on a bit of a GT cruise (inspired by TG's epic trips), maybe to Switzerland via Germany. :p

I have seen this picture of the Flying Spur which I believe is of me on my test drive.

I'll see what I can do for you all.

Ohh I wasnt against it or anything...that was just a comment ;) I mean if you were to go down a one-way street and you met face to face with a Range Rover, it'll be the Rover that backs up!

btw how much is the Bentley in AUD?
