hey guys, when i watch a video like 5th gear or soemthing, my computer crashes becasue of a driver in my graphics card.

now i've tried the whole, delte and install driver again. then update it from the site. nope nothing happens.

anyone got any ideas or whys to diagnosie it?

is this the same PC that is restarting unexpectedly?

I had that problem, changed board, memory, graphics card, processor, and finally, found out that the problem was of the board, that came defective from the warranty. If you have memory you can borrow, try to swap it to eliminate causes.

^ yep, had the same here. new laptop, 2-3months, and i gott all kinda weird crashes. board&memory were changed despite the original suspections of a graphic card problem

my looked like this, and after a while i couldnt even start the computer at all.

i had that problem with my comp when i installed a newer version of the driver without uninstalling the old version properly. check with the manufacturer's site. that's where i found the "uninstaller". then i reinstalled the new driver, and it worked fine.

my specs are

p4 1.8
inno2d geforce fx 5600xt
asus p4s333 mobo

wat else do u need to know?

noramlly i am watchin a video. then the place wehre the vid was slows down then turns black. can move my mouse. sometiems still can listen to it. then it all goes black and it pops and restarts. normally when the vid crashes i restart the computer and the send error message tells me the video driver crashed

Do you get a blue screen? What's the error message?

(if not, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > (Startup and recovery) Settings > ... and turn off Automatic Restart)

[edit: ehm... to get a chance to read the blue screen, IF it appears, that is]

umm sometimes i see the blue screen with writing for like a split second. i cant even read it , changes so quick. if i turn of auto restart wont it just stay black.?

If you overclock certain values, it sometimes (with older mobos, and certain new ones) also raises the bus speeds for the other devices. Not all these devices can handel the faster speed which they're forced to opperate at. So stuff crashes.
I'm not saying that thats the cause, but its a possibility.

Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

Nope. It should stop on the blue screen. Which would then give you a clue why the puter crashed in the 1st place by telling what file caused all the mess.

No, it stays "blue" - which means you can write down the error code. You only care about the first 4-5 lines. You'll get quite a few hits on Google, so including the (example) 0xc0000005 wil sometimes help also.

I hate the auto restart, because if it's on and you can't boot because of a crash / blue screen - you'll never get the message.

no that doesnt happen man. when i watch a vid. after 20 mins it crashes. video dies, sometimes the audio carries on. then the screen dies. kinda good coz it gives my eyes a rest :(

do u think getting a new graphics card will help? god damm its pissing me off. right now my aim is just to wait till longhorn comes out then i'll get a new computer with a intel 64bit processor :)

Sounds like your having some hardware failure, possibly your video card, motherboard, or ram. Does it still restart when playing games too?

But have you tried installing a different driver for your video card?

umm there are only 2 drivers i know of. the one on the cd it came with and one on the internet which is a update. installed both of them same shit happens.

umm it crashes when i play games as well. but i changed my graphics card before as well.

jeffy is it possible to tell me how to test all 3 of thoses things so i can find out what to replace? or n e one else can tell me?

i'm a real noob so it be great if u can gimme the link to the place to download it

million thanks in advance

So your computer doesn't actually crash (i.e. restart) then? It just the screen that goes black? Can you access it from the network after the screen goes black? Try pressing some buttons like Num Lock, if the computer hangs it won't turn on/off (the light).

Regarding possible hardware errors, I suppose if it's the video card you should have some similiar problems while playing games. If you have the chance to test a different video card in the PC, that would be a good idea - test playing the same file.

For general memory testing, download this file:
http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Unzip it, burn the image to a CD, and boot from the CD. Autostarts diagnostics.

fnorre thanks for the help. i'll record down what happen next time it hangs, dont worry wont be long.

yes, run that memtest. If it gives you bad results then you'll know that you need to change your ram. It may not be the problem, but it is one test that is easy to run and that way you'll atleast be able to rule out your ram if it's not causing the trouble.

As far as testing your video card, the best way that I know of is to try a different card in that PC and then try your card in a different PC. If you have more than one computer than this isn't too big of a deal to do.

Hope you get this straightened out soon!

OMFG i worked it out i think!

today i got MFPO when watch some stuff off hookies. every 5-10 mins it crash and i have to restart and find the place it crashed at to carry on. a 1 hour vid took 2 hours to watch. so i deicded to see if u guys were right bout the ram.

i 1st took out the older ones and put in the newest one i bought a few weeks ago to see if it work. video played till the end.

got conviced put in the 2nd newest one. a 512 one as well. work fine booted.

HOWEVER "*DRUM ROLE* i put in my oldest on 256 one. and guess what..it didnt even BOOT! it said on the black screen "push A to restart" so i am guessing its fucked. no worries i tried a few times still told me to restart.

i am wondering if i am right. or does that "push a to restart" thing mean something else.

it i am right i;m gonna go sell this POS to a computer loser and buy a new 512 stick and have a HUGGGEEEE 1.5GB of ram in my PC :>:>:>

please tell me if i am right...or a noob and should place the so cal broken 256 ram up my anus

EDIT

forget that all it booted.........wtf i am doin memory test i am sick of this shit. btw are the result technical. or are they striaght forward like. RAMBO ram is malfuctioning.
