I have a TV tuner and use Windows Media Centre to record programs, works fine but I want to compress the MPEG-2 files down to something smaller in size, (i'm recording a series right now and 8GBs per file is really annoying)

Anyway, any free programs like Handbrake which can handle WTV files?

I have something on Win7 at home and although I can't recall exactly what it is called, after a bit of digging AutoDVRConvert seems to be the application. This should get you an MPEG file which Handbrake should be able to handle. If not, VirtualDub will convert it using the x264 plugin. I recommend 1500kbps for decent file sizes.

Try Format Factory, not a 100% on whether it supports that particular file format but it does support a lot
