Theirs is black, yellow and red; ours is black, red and gold. AFAIK, gold and yellow are the same as far as flags and such are concerned, but IIRC the letters of the respective laws do make the distinction.

Is the Belgian flag the result of hanging the German flag the wrong way on the pole?

I'm pretty sure that the Belgian flag is about a century older than the current German flag, so if anything it would be the other way around.

Ah I see and they're different order indeed. France and the Netherlands however, that's the right order and only a slight difference in shade of blue. Also french like wine and as we all know wine impairs ones flaghoisting-ability.
