Coolest MkII Golf ever!

agree with you on that one.

to all those saying stock is best, you have no appreciation to the genius it takes to make this thing. It's brilliant. Function over form. I agree that it isn't the best, but that's what makes it one of the best MkIIs I've seen.

You can have all the money in the world, but you can't buy taste.

I would approve if it would be Golf II Syncro Rallye.. the one with 210bhp G-lader engine.

God bless Gatebil, even if it is Norwegian.:p

I stand corrected. I just figured the fine car people here would enjoy seeing a ground up fabrication of a mid-engined, 350 hp, space frame, wide-body, stripped out, MkII Golf.

You guys disappoint me, even the Finns don't like it.

Well, it is a great build and you gotta respect the craftsmanship. But stating that it is the coolest MkII Golf ever really is overkill and the bit everyone (me included) pointed out.

And I'll take that "even the Finns don't like it" as a compliment.....we are the official judges of automotive coolness !! :p

Turbocharged 4 banger with a huge turbo and crazy body kit, lame indeed... <_<

I never said it was lame. I just pointed out that it really isn't all that cool, especially since it is a pure racing car: as a street car it would be immensely cooler, this applies with every car ever made, if there is a comparison to be made between the same car being a race car and a street car.

And Group-B rally cars are in a league of their own, that's a whole different matter. ;)

Seems like the cool was the hang up. . . fixed.

As with understanding anything relevant on Topgear, semantics are king.

I like the car, but it doesn't really look like something Q would be fitting clever gadgets to.

Think of it this way, if were going to be nerdy with internet car people each-other, atleast its about something that can make us more socially capable.

Mechanically it's awesome. Aesthetically, it's hideous. I've always hated those squarish fender flares.

If you are going to build a custom, hand made space frame race car, why put the body of a Mk II golf around it with such a hideous body kit?

And I've always loved them! <3

Still, I was expecting a little more than 350 hp out of a turbocharged 2L race engine. Heck, Mitsubishi can get more than that out of a production engine!

OMG....i want this picture high-res badly!

Edit: I found more pictures from the same 'event' here, but they are still low-res. Does anyone know where I can find this photos hi-res ? S1+snow+sliding=pure porn

i can respect the build, that's pretty decent, and i do love the old 70's and 80's widebody styling, but those skirts are hideous, a bit too boxy for my tastes, and i like the Volvo 240 o_O

I think a stock shell with a mid-engine sleeper would be cooler. Those body kit is just too much for me, even for a race car.
As for the coolest, should be a stock, rebuilt Mk2 but no chrome parts.
