I don't like it. I love the engine, the chassis, the use of carbon fibre to save weight, and the way it promises to drive. It just looks terrible, though. And I'm a die-hard C5/C6 fan, especially the C5 and C6 Z06 variants. The Z06's body changes are subtle and performance oriented...the small vents, spoilers, and ducts. The new ZR1 just tries too hard to look fast. The Corvette already looks fast, you don't have to tack on a bunch of bits. Sure, the rear spoiler and the front splitter may be functional, but you can't tell me that the rest of it is.
Let me put it this way. It's got an unpainted carbon fiber front lip, 20" chrome wheels, and a silly plexiglass cover to let you see into the engine bay. Sounds more like a product of Pimp My Ride than a bastard child of the C6.R. And yes, I know it's supposed to be more of a streetable beast than the Z06, which moves it towards the GT/Cruiser catagory, IMO. Problem is, it really doesn't work there, either. Does an Aston have silly chrome wheels, unpainted carbon, and a transparent hood? Nope.
I drive a Honda, the cars notoriously associated with kids with backwards hats and saggy pants, and I know that many of my fellow Honda drivers would love to have a clear hood, 20" wheels, and unpainted carbon fiber. And they'd be justifiably called ricers, if they had those things. The new ZR1 has them from the factory. Go figure.
Poor taste, Chevy. I'll stick to the Z06, thanks.
