Covid 19 CRISIS

Sean Penn Helping Bring Free COVID-19 Testing To CA

Wrong conclusions don't invalidate accurate points made along the way.

So when Bolsonaro tells you that cutting down the Amazon forest is a cheap and effective way to give a job and a pay to many brazilians and this will in the longer term help the economy and bring prosperity, will you ignore the completely wrong conclusion in order to strenuously defend its accurate point along the way against those people criticizing the whole idea, or wouldn't it appear to you that the argument must be addressed and judged as a whole first?

No, that's the other way round. Here's an example:

"The sky is blue, therefore rain is beer" - The conclusion "rain is beer" is nonsense, yet this does not invalidate "the sky is blue".

"The sky is blue, therefore rain is beer" - The conclusion "rain is beer" is nonsense, yet this does not invalidate "the sky is blue".

You see? First you had to consider it as a whole, you had to agree your example is nonsense in its main point, and only then you can address the single points singularly.

This should be done for the Forbes' article too.

Enough of this Forbes' nonsense.

Covid-19 news

In the first three months of 2020, Italy has recorded +20% overall deaths compared to the 2015-2019 average.

It is already quite a lot, but do not forget that most of the excess deaths are located in Northern Italy, and particularly in Lombardy, so in some areas the data may well be 3-4 times the past years average, like some mayors denounced in March.

EDIT

Turns out, the data is a projection based on only a fraction of the total municipalities, those with the highest death count.

Not really, no.

That's your problem.

First you have to agree that the Forbes' article is demonstrably bad and wrong (I stress demonstrably), then you can take what you think might be valid points anyway, disassemble them from the bad main structure and treat them separately.

Anything else is beating around the bush.

Fact: China has stopped two remdesivir trials because they can't enroll patients due to lack of covid-19 cases.

Speculation (again, from Forbes, but I can't find the link right now): remdesivir is working so well in early trials that China pulled the plug from the Stage III trials to sabotage the remdesivir progress, with the goal of getting their own covid-19 medication to the market first, instead of leaving the glory of "saving the world from Corona" to a US company.

More speculation (from the same Forbes article): Gilead is deliberately leaking positive preliminary results to distract investors from the fact that their board is currently imploding.

Sean Penn Helping Bring Free COVID-19 Testing To CA

Cool to see Sean Penn helping out but what's annoying me with how this is being handled on a federal level is only enforcing everyone to think "you see how they're handling this? What makes you think they can handle managing Healthcare at all?" It's already been there with how medicare and VA hospitals are managed, so this isn't good.

But still, good work Sean.

Coronavirus clue? Most cases aboard U.S. aircraft carrier are symptom-free

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sweeping testing of the entire crew of the coronavirus-stricken U.S. aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt may have revealed a clue about the pandemic: The majority of the positive cases so far are among sailors who are asymptomatic, officials say.

The possibility that the coronavirus spreads in a mostly stealthy mode among a population of largely young, healthy people showing no symptoms could have major implications for U.S. policy-makers, who are considering how and when to reopen the economy.

It also renews questions about the extent to which U.S. testing of just the people suspected of being infected is actually capturing the spread of the virus in the United States and around the world.

The Navy’s testing of the entire 4,800-member crew of the aircraft carrier - which is about 94% complete - was an extraordinary move in a headline-grabbing case that has already led to the firing of the carrier’s captain and the resignation of the Navy’s top civilian official.

Roughly 60 percent of the over 600 sailors who tested positive so far have not shown symptoms of COVID-19, the potentially lethal respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, the Navy says. The service did not speculate about how many might later develop symptoms or remain asymptomatic.

“With regard to COVID-19, we’re learning that stealth in the form of asymptomatic transmission is this adversary’s secret power,” said Rear Admiral Bruce Gillingham, surgeon general of the Navy.

The figure is higher than the 25% to 50% range offered on April 5 by Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force.

A New Statistic Reveals Why America’s COVID-19 Numbers Are Flat

https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-al...disease-outbreak-in-china-in-november-report/

Us Intelligence knew back in November. They told Israeli leaders, and also the Trump administration who decided it was not an important thing to worry about right now.

So the US knew and tried to tell the right people and it fell on deaf ears, nice.
At the time no one had any idea how serious this thing would be. Can't shut down the world economy every time someone sneezes.

We knew by January, and all the warnings that came before that should have been informative. Can't help when they are all ignored though. Trumped downplayed the information he was receiving until the market started to crash, then he downplayed it some more. Then he announced he knew it was going to be a pandemic the entire time. Would you like video clips of this stuff, or is this getting to political for you?

That's not an answer. Do you believe that we can't discount all of eugenics because they made some true points or not?
If that's your takeaway then you misunderstood me. I'll reiterate: If you take a bunch of facts and came to a BS conclusion from those, that conclusion being BS doesn't invalidate the facts you used to come to that BS conclusion - those facts can still be facts.

Fuck it, I'll get political for one post.

Trump has been acting against COVID-19 all along, while the Democrats and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) bad-mouthed him for it. Meanwhile, China constantly lied and Europe didn't react all that early either (can't blame them - they didn't have a crystal ball).

Want evidence from such a wide variety of sources that even you can't complain?

Want to know why I didn't want to bring politics into this thread when it was first posted? Because I knew that you (and others, but mostly you) would post nothing but ignorant opinion pieces bashing Trump. And sure enough, here we are in the midst of a global pandemic, a time when you'd think we'd set aside our political differences, come together, and do our best to survive, and you're constantly bashing Trump as if he could've predicted the future. I, for one, am glad that Trump didn't listen to Pelosi, de Blasio, or the media, but you've never said boo about their nonsense, have you?

Can't wait to come back to the typical nonsensical one-liner response from you!
