John Walton, son of the founder of the US Wal-Mart retail chain, has died when his light aircraft crashed in Wyoming.

No one else was aboard the plane piloted by the 58-year-old billionaire, which crashed shortly after take-off from Jackson Hole.

Walton was the world's 11th richest person, worth in excess of $18bn according to Forbes magazine.

Wal-Mart is the world's largest retailer, and was founded by John Walton's father, Sam.

Walton was a member of Wal-Mart's board.

So far the reason for the crash is not clear, but a spokeswoman for the Grand Teton National Park, where the plane went down, said Walton was an experienced pilot and the weather conditions were good.

He was flying a home-made aircraft, with wings of heavy-duty fabric stretched over a aluminium frame.

"This was an experimental, very lightweight aircraft," said Park spokeswoman, Joan Anzelmo.

Wow. :|

Oh well, maybe they can give like 10 bucks to every citizen in the US. That would be a nice gesture.

i had the exact same reaction

a bum living not so far away from me died as well last week, we're all gonne feel pitty for him as well? or didn't he have enough money?

but seriously, yesterday a mum of 3 was killed by a 18 wheeler when waiting at the lights. now that is sad, not some jurky greaseball whose plane fell down

It's not that it's sad Justin, it's more like whoa, I've gone to his stores, and now the billionaire's dead...that's how I feel tho, I'm not sad tho :p

Just because he's rich, he deserves more attention than someone from the street?

I mean, when someone dies, sympathy is always in order, but sometimes I hate it the way the media plays it out...

That's just going to make the other four Waltons $18 billion richer!

My exact feelings, why should the millionaire be grieved upon more than any other person ? Ok, so he was a prominent figure, he made jobs for so many people (which he paid like shyte, no offense, but at least he paid them) and strived to make his dream of being really rich come true.... good. Am I supposed to feel sorry for him ? No. He got his dream come true, and I don't think he was an unhappy man when he died, with all that money at his disposal.

I agree with all the news hubub about prominent figures dying, but its always going to happen no matter what. You can't avoid it.

I care if my family members die.

I dont really care if a bum or billionaire dies and the truth is that money IS power so OBVIOUSLY the billinionaire gets more attention but every life is the same in Gods eyes...I mean to the world. ;)
