Not bad 8)

Debuting at this round was the newest entry to this RWD-only field, the Yukes/Team Orange Subaru Impreza STi. Normally only available in tangy AWD flavors, the front drive shafts were removed and a Hollinger gearbox fitted, which routed the power through a Skyline GT-R rear differential. Allegedly 550hp is available via one monstrous snail and a 2.5-litre flat four.

On the circuit, it performed flawlessly, slithering around the track in the hands of veteran D1 driver Kumakubo Nobushige. One of the top 10 drivers on the circuit, he took it through it's paces without a single foul up. It's sure to become a fixture on the circuit through the rest of the year. One notable feature of this car is the radiator, which is mounted in the rear of the car. Two large vents in the rear doors feed air through the radiator, which then vents out through a large hole in the rear trunk lid. This vehicle is based on a Impreza STi Spec C RA lightweight special. source: autobacsusa.com

if anyone has more picture, lets c them :) i dont really like those holes in the trunk, but if it hellps performance i can make my piece with that

EDIT: found more info about the car

2005 new machine introduction :
YUKE's CUSCO with ADVAN Impreza (GDB)
Driver: Shigenobu Kumakubo

The astonishing rear-radiator mounted JUN 550hp engine.

The aero parts you can see are mostly made by M-sports, where Kumakubo's team mate, Tanaka Kazuhiro, works. The body is approximately 8cm wider than standard. The rear wing is made by Cusco.

Kumakubo's new machine is an Impreza, which will be unique in D1.
Originally, Kumakubo was considering driving a car type that is already in D1, the Fair lady Z , but he had to give then up because ORC had already used it. Kumakubo thought of the Impreza because he was also fond of rally cars.
Kumakubo consulted Koyama, who is a tuner in the Japanese company JUN automechanics. His question was: "Is it possible to make it into rear wheel drive?" he answered:"Should be OK" So Kumakubo commissioned JUN to design and build his D1 machine.

Kumakubo's request was "Front engine rear wheel drive, and more than 500hp, and a fast machine." Except for that request, he totally left it with JUN, and the machine was built.
This was the first experience for JUN to make Drift car. However, JUN knows the Impreza. They re-used the Holinger transmission of Kumakubo's old machine the Silvia, took off the front drive shafts, and transformed the Impreza onto a F/R. The rear diff and spindly drive shafts, which were weak spots, were changed for GT-R parts and further strengthened. The engine is based on Forester 2.5L, which enabled the machine to put out 550hp.
Moreover, the radiator is mounted in the rear to protect it in the case of crash.

Although Kumakubo lost in the first session of the second match due to the transmission problem, he showed good angle and speed in the all star match.
The potential is already there.

The engine internals are strengthened with JUN parts, and it puts out 550hp with the help of a TD06SH.25G turbo. As this is a 2500cc engine, it has flatter torque than Silvia 550hp. The intercooler is mounted behind the radiator core support to protect it in the case of a crash.

In order to minimize the damage when the car crashes, the radiator is installed in the trunk. The duct from the door rear vent takes in air.
Drifting is to run sideways, therefore, is was suggested that the air should be taken in from the side as well.

It has a STACK meter. In order to adjust to the Holinger transmission, the floor tunnel is partly recreated. The emergency brake is mounted to Kumakubo's specification. Also an air jack is fitted because it "looks cool".

The suspension is custom made by Kei Office. At this point, the spring rate is the front 10Kg / rear 6kg. The steering rack is exchanged to one from a 1500cc model and upgraded the steering joints which improved the sharpness.

Driver Kumakubo's comment:
"I can drive it as well as the Silvia. I felt comfortable first time I tried it. Actually, I was not totally satisfied with sharpness of angle; however, we immediately fixed it, which made it all right. Because the engine is especially good, the machine is very fast. It is not so different from the Silvia. I can say I need a bit of more of the grip feeling on the rear and the grip impression of the inside, when I am off the accelerator. There will be no problem once those are fixed."

I've seen this done before alot... it seems to be very popular for highway racers and drifters

awesome pics pdanev

im looking for some more pics now without much sucess though, but i found some more info, check the bottom of the 1st post ;)

:woot:

part of me thinks a Subaru made to be RWD only is going to make baby jesus cry... but damn does it looks really nice in action

TF

nice car
thanks for the pics Pdanev :woot:

damm is that on a wide body kit?
The body is approximately 8cm wider than standard.
i think this is awesome. its a change from all the silvias and ae86's. i love it

edit: did anyone else notice the impreza in the drift special on fifth gear? i wonder if that was also rwd because it looked like it was doing some nice drifts.

btw the front intercooler is v-small and in the back is holes is that where the fuel is
?

and is the intercooler new tech coz i mean its small

well... small intercooler doesn't = shit... even if the intercooler is small, it can be thick which absorbs just as much air and makes it more efficient, just like the SW20 MR2 (previous gen), the intercooler was in the sidevents and were pretty small but it was pretty damn thick, it absorb basically all the air that hit the intercooler ;)

Damn  I want it here im my garage neyt to my imaginary 200 Sx, and AE86.

^ your imaginary garage is no big deal :D

my has all the d1 machines in it already

in the first post it says the radiator is in the trunk so the holes are to let out all the air not used. and it may be running a dual intercooler setup so they dont need one huge intercooler.
