Man, I wish these coverage vids were longer :(

I hear you! But 25 minutes is better than nothing.

I just watched the video for stage 3. They showed Flash Gordon in his H3 storming through the desert. That thing was soaking up every monster bump! And together with that V8 sound, I will bet that every camel was running for his life!

Peterhansel seems to be whining all of the time (a lot of dust, punctures, blah, blah, blah...)
I think he is already feeling the pressure from the TDi armada!

The Desert Fox (Schlesser) is talking about winning already! He first better hope that he will not have to leave another burnt carcass behind, if you know what I mean.

The Russians and the Brazilians in the trucks are having a ball! Specially considering that some trucks were sent back home.

This rally is fantastic!

Is anyone else watching the coverage on OLN? The first two days were good, as they used a non-American (well, I wouldn't think so, judging by the accent) for the narration, and he's good with the names, but then on Day 3, they switched to an American and he mispronounces so many names! Might not mind so much if I didn't know the proper pronunciations in the first place, but since I do, it's pretty annoying (Carlos Sanes is particularly grating, and Isidre Esteve Pujol was quite a mess). I hope they switch back to the first guy. :p

No OLN here, just torrents.
I am not surprised at some american commentators messing up the pronounciation of foreign names. It is very typical. One would think that because they are jornalists, they would be a bit better at foreign languages than your typical american.

are you actually taught a secondary language at school in the US?

we are taught english, french and german and most school have an option for spanish or italian

In the usa, children are taught beginning 9th grade ESL (English as Second Language). So the answer to your question is yes.

Back home in Portugal, you start to learn your second foreign language by the time you reach 7th grade.

Surely someone on this board besides me is actually watching it...wait for it...on TV! Haha. :p

I'm watching it on OLN Canada, which airs the same coverage as the original OLN in the States. It's on at 7:30 PM every night and then repeated the next day at 3:30 PM.

Are you recording it? I would like to watch it on OLN as well, but I don't get it.

Can't help in that regard as I have no way to turn it into digital files even if I was recording it. My computer's not worth putting the money into to be able to do it, either. Besides, I bet the international coverage is better anyway (though not any longer, I hear), so get those torrents and such if you can.

I hope Speed gets the rights to cover it again someday. They did an amazing job with it!

Is the OLN coverage only a 1/2 hour as well?

I just watched the episode for day 4!
Biasion almost hit a Bowler (I think), ran over a few spectators, and them some more, all withing a 5 second period! It was funny to see people run for safety when they saw the truck coming their way.
I was surprised to see so many people in the middle of that immense sea of dunes! Bloody fantastic!

I felt sorry for that older guy riding the old motorcycle with the sidecar. It looked like a missile hit it! Too bad he had to retired. :(

The production crew are very good! In every episode there are some great shots! For example, on the day 4's episode, the helicopter was following bike #3 (Isidre Esteve) when he was climbing a dune, and when he reaches the top, you see all of those people. Very nice!

Ok, keep us, or me, posted. I have limited bandwidth, so I'll only download the best ones.

I have an article about Robbie Gordon in an offroad magazine from March of last year. In the article Robbie talked about his plans for this years Dakar. He says that a light and small vehicle with 2wd is the way to go and that is what he was planning to build.

I find it funny that what he actually comes up with is a vehicle based on the H2, which is the exact opposite of small and light :p

But anyway, I think it looks pretty cool and I hope he does well to make up for that silly to his rally last year when he had to give his steering column to that other girl because she broke hers :? I love the clip of robbie taking off his helmet and hurling it at the car in frustration.

Foxtel here in Aus (Fox1 Sports) has the same ep as the SBS one, except they repeat yesterday's stage first, so it's a 1 hour slot.

Pity I do not have Fox otherwise I'd rip it :( I head off to my friend's place to watch it instead.

Spoilers for those who don't want to know
Bad news for some of the more well known competitors yesterday. Anyone see Matsuoka's ride!! Incredible that it finished the stage..

Guess the BMW X3s really aren't 4WDs after all... (Sorry, don't like them)

Pity for Robbie Gordon too :(

Carlos is going well!!

I got completely pissed off with the OLN coverage last night. The name pronounciations are painful but I could forgive them if their hosts knew ANYTHING about rallying or even motorsports PERIOD. The american twit was talking about the truck placements and says 'Vladimir Chagin has an absolutely silly lead of OVER AN HOUR on day four!' And hour... on the fourth day of a FOURTEEN DAY rally? The only thing silly is the fact that this is the best coverage we get in North America. Rrrgh!

Thanks for the torrent links! Please please PLEASE help maintain our sanity and keep them coming. :)

I think the 1/2 hour episode are made by the Dakar organisation and broadcasted worldwide. Luckily the RTL7 program have a crew onsite and they do interviews with the Dutch riders and some behind the scenes features. They mix that with the official footage and produce a 1 hour program.

Okay, I just watched the Eurovision coverage of Stage 3 which was shown on OLN last night, the video is the same and they're working off the same script but the hosts are completely different. OLN uses some non-motorsports wanker that inserts his own 'witty' comments that are generally completely wrong. The OLN coverage is also stripped down to add in commercials.

I'm extremely glad the Eurovision coverage has started popping up. Thanks thanks thanks!
