:wall: Somehow I don't think they settle for one of those things... :bangin:

That is so stupid :) They should keep their mouthes open not to damage eardrums. Covering ears gives little help at 35Hz.

I've read in some audio-magazine that some guy in dB-drag competition insisted to sit in his car, while his system produced something like 150db (but higher frequency, about 80Hz). Amazingly he wasn't deaf (kept his mouth open though), but was disqualified for cousing so much danger to himself.

EDIT: For those of you who aren't familiar with exponential scale, for example: ambulance siren is 120dB, and with every 10dB loudness doubles.

Actually, sound intensity increases ten times with an increase of 10dB, so 150dB is 1000 times more sound energy than 120dB!

Huh..I was tought this: 50db + 50dB = 53 dB...

Like two cars standing next to eachother, those 2 cars don't have twice as much Db as one..

Yes, intensity. But human ear is a bit more complicated, so 10db increase feels 2 times louder.

Well, sure, but that doesn't conflict with what I said. And 2 50db cars doesn't feel much louder than one either. It's really really really hard to get high sound pressure, just many subs won't do it. Records are somewhere around 180-190 dB i think, and these cars look more like tanks :) Stiffness is very important. A whole science really :)

100dB won't harm you (maybe from really close distance), but 120dB is usually considered as pain-barrier.
