can old ddr333 ram be run on a DDR2 533 motherboard?

hehe nice, crisp quick answer, thanks :p

all depends on a motherboard, some support DDR2 as well as DDR...

no? :|

so what happened with backwards compatibility?

DDR2 ram has fewer pins and requires less voltage. It's a completely different design thus it won't fit on a DDR mobo.

Actually - DDR1 has 184 pins, DDR2 has 240pins. The only motherboard that supports both types, are those based around the i915 chipset from intel. Athlon64's dont yet use DDR2, although they will next year, now Intel customers have helped iron out all the bugs

The main difference between the two, is that while DDR2 runs at higher speeds than DDR1, it has MASSIVELY high latencies. In actual use DDR1 is actually still just as fast.
