Hello All,

This my first post... I've been lurking around for quite sometime... since I discovered the possibility of watching the whole show... I live in Brazil and we've got only the BBCWorld half hour version here.

Now, I am kinda addicted... So first I'd like to thanks Vuk and the others for amazing work for the petrolhead kind living in places BBC2 deprived.

One of the most interesting things for me... besides all the jokes that are not included in the BBCWorld version... is the cool wall. Here is very hard to see mainstream media people giving straight opinions about cars... or about many other products with big advertising budgets...

For me is amazing to watch millions of dollars in propaganda efforts to convince people that some car is cool disappear when JC move the pictures around.

But there is a problem.

I really trust JC's opinion about the quality and feel of the ride, performance, etc... Not many people in the world actually drove all those cars. But coolness is not something that is decided by the bloke on the driver seat. Coolness is decided by the people looking at the bloke in the drivers seat.

Some months ago there was a discussion about the cars in the cool wall here... but it was not very productive...
It is almost impossible to discuss the coolness of a car in a forum thread.

Last week I was customizing a php gallery to evaluate the performance of brazilian politicians (we are in a major political crises here) and had a idea... why not adapt the script to create a "democratic cool wall"? A place to gather the people's voice on what is cool...

Here is the result:

http://coolwall.br101.org/

I still need to input some tecnical data about the cars and maybe include some top gear's quotes from the huge thread that I saw here, but most of the cool wall is there.

Not sure if the site is working properly... or if the idea is stupid or offensive... any feedback is welcomed.

Sorry for the broken english

:welcome: , interesting name there (I'm Chinese), and the Cool Wall is just a laugh the presenters have with the cars based on usually which celebrities buy those cars; it usually doesn't deter people from running out and buying Audi TTs.

By the way, you need a "Seriously Uncool" section, for Hummers. :p

i realy don't

each season there are at least 3 cars that he says are the best he has ever driven.
a car with the wrong badge, is a bad car.
and he is a luxury-whore, if a car isn't comfortable enough, it has an american suspension

and no way the ford GT is as good as he tries to let everyone beleive

EDIT: how does your system of votes work? uncool = 1, subzero = 4, and you take the average? if it works like that, unless everyone votes for seriously uncool or subzero, a car will never end up in one of those categories. it'll always be uncool or cool

The cool wall can never be democratic. Thats the reason why it flopped here...

/edit: But I really like your approach!! It looks neat.

The coolness of a car is decided by what Fiona Bruce (correct?) thinks of you if you turned up in the car.

Good idea, but I really hate those adverts. :( :( The webspace is free is guess ;)

In the end you will need more people to vote, otherwise your result will be bullsh*t

Well, thats what Jezza thinks...

The main thing to remember when approaching the concept of the CoolWall, is forgetting about the data sheet of the car.

IMO, everybody is allowed to have ONE supercar as being cool or subzero, since dreams just have to be, but the rest is fucked.

HP doesnt define coolness!!!

I am having problems dude, when I click a car to vote , when I vote it says I have already voted when I haven't even voted. :(

Neat idea

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback.. this is one friendly place.

Actually, I am brazilian... My grand parents came from Japan... "China" is a very common nickname for people with an oriental look in Latin America.

Peru's corrupt president Fujimori used be called "El Chino", brazilian minister Luiz Gushiken is also "China" and some of my cousins share the same nickname.

Some time ago... a mainland chinese bloke was offended by my nickname (cause of the barbaric actions of the japanese imperial army before and during WWII). I look japanese, but I am not. I am brazilian...

I've been called "China" since I was 6 years old. I don't mean to offend anyone.

I do not trust JC (or anyone) blindly. But I don't know anyone that actually drove that many supercars for such a long time... He knows what he is talking about.

It is a question of opinion and honesty... I am more suspicious about the berlingo, for instance... Why that thing so much better than a Doblo or the renault equivalent that i don't remember the name...

The system works exactly like you describe... but it doesn't need a consensus... There is a interval. To be sub zero the car needs an average >=3,5, not a 4.

IMHO, it is something to consider... Not just HP... but a car that looks like a DB9 but has a Corsa engine is a wannabe car... therefore not cool.

Ford GT's fuel ineficiency... the power without elegance... It is also not cool... it is just my way if judging it.

About the system... I am using this open source cms:

http://www.cpgnuke.com/

A php-nuke with this photo gallery intergrated:

http://coppermine-gallery.net/

Some people are also complaining about not being able to vote in some of the brazilian politicians evaluation (
http://picaretas.br101.org/) site that I've made before this one...

I've tested everything in firefox, mozilla and konqueror all in linux. I am trying to reproduce the error here and searched some forums for the solution... But couldn't find yet.

The system logs IPs and uses cookies to avoid double voting... One solution would be register to vote... since this seens to override the protection...

Not sure if people would want to do all the login process just to vote...
