I was driving home, from my most likely failed exam, today in the middle of rushhour and got a little stuck, so out of boredom I desided to count roundabouts :D
It was about 120km and I counted 11 roundabouts, and I didn't take any detours to find more, this was on the main road.

That's not too bad. In Belgium they're converting most of the intersections into roundabouts(on smaller roads). I think it's a good thing considering safety and all, and it's more fun

Yeah
That's the part of roads I enjoy the most... :woot: :driving: :burnrubber:

but my girl friend is quite bored with this

also driving home from my hopefully passed exam, i counted 0 roundabouts.

hehe, i love roundabouts. so easy to use and quick to go through. only one i hate is the big one near melbourne uni where it has 2 or 3 lanes and combined with traffic lights. i probably just need more practice on that particular one, and from observing other drivers, so do most of melbourne

In France roundabouts are more fun than in Belgium, our roundabouts often are a few road signs put together, the french roundabouts are small villages :p.

the french roundabouts are insane, you can get lost just by driving around them, so big

i like roundabouts, and its basically the more guts you have, the faster you're around, especially the one where there is more than 1 lane, everybody afraid waiting in the right one till it's their turn, just swerm to the left, and fly by them all

(be carefull about 18-wheelers though, they tend to cut)

In the town next to mine, there's more than 115 roundabouts in less than 8 square kms. Can you beat that? I think it's a record.

Oh, and a lot of them still don't have more than 2 exits.

I've never seen a round-a-bout in Melbourne... its just all traffic lights and that stupid watch for pedestrian while turning left rule

The only round-a-bouts I know in Canada are the two that are in York University! What's the point of round-a-bouts anyway? Are they safer than 4-way intersections? And why mainly in Europe?

roundabouts are a very british thing... they are effective if people actually follow the rules like inside lane for going every direction except the first exit and outside lade used only for the first exit, it would be more effective than intersections and they cost practically no money to run... but in countries like Malaysia where no one follows the rules, roundabouts turn out to be major failures as no one follows the rules

Yep, as you have to brake for it, with traffic or not.

what? it's the opposite, you have to brake at an intersection, there are stops, on that round thing you can just keep on going, isn't it?

what bihus means is if you see a green light at an intersection, what do you naturally do, you speedup so you can cross it in time, this means if a kid walks onto the road or a drunk driver runs a red light = more chances you'll hit them... wherelse in a roundabout, when you reach an intersection, wheather there are cars or not, you'll still slow down to go into the round a bout which means it is safer
