I started donating to Red Cross this year and just came back from my 2nd one. Was actually lucky enough to get the Kari Byron (from Mythbusters) lookalike this year. :D

Then I was treated to a spot of lunch and am now enjoying my 2 days off (so basically my vacation starts today and not the 24th. \o/

I did in high school and passed out due to low blood sugar AFTER I donated. It was completely my fault for not eating properly that day, but it was enough for me to never want to donate again.

Now I have a tattoo, and from what I recall, you can't donate with one for a certain period of time? Not sure. That might be an older restriction though.

Good on you for donating. :)

no wai, blood creeps me out. O_O

The wife used to until she had a transfusion herself (Due to complications on the birth of my son). Following one of those NHS will not take the blood in case you have Aids or Hep C.

yeah I do. Been a long while though.
There is some weird rule that you can't do it if you have tattoos or piercings...which I don't really get.

Last time I donated I was actually kinda drunk, went to bed at like 4 am, after a party, biked to school at 7.30 without eating anything and then went on to donate. I was thinking I should pass out but I didnt.

Strangely, the blood I was giving wasn't full of beer either...

I used to escort my ex when she was giving blood. They gave her a cute cup and a box of candy. (I mean, like 4 kilos of it) :D

Every 3 months when I'm allowed to. When you travel allot it's a bit of a problem cause I've been to Thailand 5 months ago and it seems you can't donate for a full year after you come back for fear of.....disease? Anyways it was the same with India and Nepal before Thailand.

I do work in a hospital though so it's pretty easy to remember to give blood :)

BTW all we get after donating is some juice and a cookie and then it's back to work, wtf 2 days off!?!

yeah, we had to go back to work/school right after too!
only 1 cookie was given, no holiday no nothing.

They took 2 of those bag thingies, I dunno how much is in it. 2x 250 ml?

I do whenever I remember.

That's what we get, too.

Plus ten minutes in bed while they're siphoning off their pint.

Not much I won't do for a lie down and a cookie.

Well, I'd rather have a cookie than the cheap ass lunch we got. :p

my blood is defective and they won't take it

When I was in high school, the hospital where I gave tracked people and I was well over 3 gallons before I stopped. I recently gave plasma as part of an anthrax vaccine thing. I have received 7 anthrax shots, and apparently the antibodies in my system are valuable, so I was paid $100 per donation x8 visits and a bonus of $350 just for showing up!

Same here. I'm actually on the receiving end, so you don't want my blood ;)

So, in that case, thank-you everyone :)

They still let you donate with low blood sugar?

As far as I'm aware, that's still in place. I think it has something to do with the possibility of infections.

I ain't got time to bleed.

A friend tried dragging me along once but courageously I decided not to go through with it. Dont like blood, dont like needles, and I hate the idea of the red stuff gushing into a plastic sack next to me, and thats an end of it.

Nope, can't deal with the needles.

I did, once, for my friend's Eagle Scout project. I haven't done so otherwise because I'm afraid of needles.
