Since the downloads are like 21min or something and there's a part1 and part2, I assume its a 30 min show with commercials?

That's exactly it. UK TV shows are all weird as they have their commercials all at once.

Really?? Never knew that! Thats good though. I never understood that "End part I" & "Start part II" stuff...i thought maybe Vuk or someone added that in.

No, it's not good, as you can surf to somewhere else as they're all doing the commercials at the same time. I doubt it's also as good for advertisers as since the commercials are like 5 minutes long, people just go find something else to do. Either that, people watch them as their is nothing else on...

isn't it the same in the states, or are commercials just after shows... because when I download hdtv caps of tv shows like amazing race, they have alot of breaks as well

most 30 mins shows are actually 25 mins.
theres ads inbetween shows and 1 set in the middle

is this for US or UK, if this is about the states, then isn't it the same as the rest of the world?... so what I don't understand is why viper said UK tv is weird if the ad. format is the same as the states...

In the US, there's probably 4-6 commercial breaks. More, but shorter and they all aren't at the same time which allows me to easily watch something else while a commercial is on. :)

TV shows here are 42 minutes long, so do the math.

I prefer to have 1 long commericial break, like 5-7mins where I can go get a drink, and if its a primetime show, have a shower...... and take my time and wander back to the tv about 5mins later, rather than having to run round the house to get a drink and quickly come back to the tv so I don't miss anything

I would like to have that here, but sadly we don't have such a luxury in the US. That's part of the reason I own a TiVo so I don't have to watch any commercials.

I just download all my TV. I've been spoiled by 16:9.

I can't understand why people would want adverts all the way through their programs. US TV pisses me off so much because within a few minutes there's an advert. I mean the show has only just started, I don't want to see adverts, I want to watch the damn show! Also, there's absolutely no chance to grab a snack or anything because the adverts are shorter and more frequent - it's just plain annoying.

This is why I love the BBC, there's nothing better than no adverts. One thing I hate about most US and Canadian TV that I've seen is they put the adverts anywhere in the show, I've seen channels where they put the adverts in the middle of scenes, ruins the program.I prefer a longer single break if I have to have adverts.

What's the deal with BBC? Top Gear is an hour with no commercials so is it equivalent to a cable channel in the USA? Do you have to pay extra for BBC? Is Five free, therefore it must have commercials?

Here in oz we get 2 ad breaks or so for a 30 minute show... I don't find that too bad. I love top gear with no ads though.

If you own a TV or radio in the UK you have to pay a licensce fee (about ?120 a year, less for radio or a black and white set I think). This money pays for the main bbc stuff, meaning no adverts except for small adverts for other bbc services/programs between programs. It doesn't matter if you don't watch the BBC which is where some contraversy lies, but in all I support the fee. None of the money goes to other channels therefore they have to have adverts etc.

Oh, in the uk the adverts are rougly evry 15 minutes, therefore once during the simpsons, 3 times during an hour long show.
