Nice...

Yay!

Now go do something that may require a rollbar, dammit!

^ +rep

The bar worked wonders on chassis rigidity! Gone are all the small squeaks and rattles and it feels a little more stable at highway speeds. Hit triple digits for the first time in the M (on a private racetrack in Mexico, obv) and she felt good. Saturday night on my way home after getting the bar in the roof came unlatched on the passenger side. Pretty sure my friend just didn't latch it correctly. Thankfully the driver's side stayed on so my roof didn't blow away. That happened at around 80 so I'm happy that everything stayed attached this morning at 100. Its also been raining and there doesn't appear to be any water leaking in, indicating that we did a good job putting the roof back on.

Of course you did not speed on a public road, of course!

I've had a soft top go flying off at 80mph. It's not the most fun thing to happen.

Glad to hear the bar is working out for you.

Just a quick update: after driving the Miata to work for two days I can honestly say that its the worst daily driver I've ever been in. Except for that rental Corolla because it managed to be so boring that it hurt my head  Low, uncomfortable seating position, cramped, no room to pick your nose, non-adjustable steering wheel, seatbelts that don't retract thanks to the rollbar, zero lumbar support, extremely loud at speed (its seriously just as loud with the top up as with it down), crazy high revs at highway speeds. Its a good thing that at 22 years old I've gotten used to it already and don't mind the poor DD capabilities that much. That said, its a hell of a lot of fun to terrorize on ramps and speed up for off ramps. Its basically a go-kart - extremely fun in a corner yet very poor everywhere else. 140hp in a 2400lbs car with very short gearing is PLENTY, by the way. Cant flippin' wait to go driving this weekend!

 w00t for daily driven roadsters! How fast is your engine revving when you hit 70? My commute is mostly in built-up areas, so it's potholes and ripply asphalt that annoy me. The downside of lightweight cars is that even stock suspension leads to bouncing around on rough roads and an ever-increasing numbers of interior rattles.

You should chuck the crappy unsupportive seats and put in some Sparcos/Corbeaus/etc.

Also, needs open headers :p

POWWEEEERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I was actually positively suprised by the long distance capabilities of my NA after I did weekend trip to M?nchen (~230kms, or 145 miles). The hard top makes it significantly quieter, of course it's still quite loud and 130km/h was max I felt comfortable, after that it gets too loud and is not relaxing to drive anymore. I can imagine it's probably quite pain in the ass without the hardtop, but I still have to fix my leaky top before I can start to live without HT. :(

Pussy! :p

Surprised at the gearing. Mine does 70 at 3500 rpm. As for the seating and comfort I'm 5'11" and I can do 300+ miles in mine and get out feeling fine - did that once last summer, all highway driving and top down. I did half that in a friend's Mondeo and felt like I needed to see my chiropractor. My steering wheel does adjust for height at least. And mine is a daily driver. I even use it for the weekly supermarket shop for the 5 of us just to spite the mother in law!

Have fun this weekend.

We've got nicer seats than the non-SE NB's. Also North American NA' sand NB's didn't have an adjustable steering wheel.

Have to agree, Jason, they are spectacularly comfortable in "ours". I guess I'm lucky enough to be built to fit mine perfectly. Whenever I use the car it's less like getting into a vehicle and more like pulling on your favourite sneakers.

The only thing I don't like about "our" seats is that the leather is thinner than the leather in most other cars so I'm parinoid about keeping them clean and well conditioned and protected.

Tuesday: I made a post complaining about the Miata's DD capabilities. I was in a foul mood and doubting my purchase.

Wednesday: driving to work and got stuck behind a lane hog in traffic. Dropped down two gears, squeezed in between a few cars, and bombed up the on/off ramp (from one highway to another) at 90mph. Sirens were heard but the LEO was on the other side of the highway. Phew.

Thursday: driving to work and caught myself thinking "hey, this isn't so bad". I need to figure out a way to make my left shoe fit on the dead pedal without clipping the clutch and I'll be set. Driving home from work and getting onto the highway behind some slowpoke - drop down a gear and wait for it... wait for it... GO! 90mph comes up quickly and slowpoke is nowhere to be seen. Check mirrors for flashing lights. Phew.

Friday: playing in the rain on the way to work. 185mm tires are surprisingly hard to break loose even in the wet. Driving home from work, took the backroads. Oh, the joy of driving, how I missed thee. Explored a local parking lot... sideways.

Miata ownership is getting better and better by the day. :)

Saturday plans: re-ground the audio so I can actually use the fancy-pants headunit, although I might put the stock one back in and take the heavy amp out of the trunk before I break it (its not even tied down); fix a brake light so I can finally pass inspection; trim/file the seatbelt bracket so that it actually retracts; undercoat where the rollbar bolts are underneath the car, if I don't get too lazy; go for a nice long drive with the top down.
