Don't let money change ya

Miata ownership is getting better and better by the day. :)

Good to hear, and I've seen your posts over on Miata.net

Tee hee hee hee hee.

I took a backroad home yesterday from the optometrist and passed a dude haulin' it in a red NC. I think he was there for the same reason I was there!

I need a pi?ata to break, that's just all there is to it.

First thing after waking up - register for autocross :D

Fixed the brake light and passed inspection. The guy at the station was a good 250lbs yet somehow fit in the Miata. Smile came onto his face instantly. Coworkers started teasing him. One of them asked about the rollbar. When I was leaving I overheard three bros smoking cigarettes talking about how "its a nice little car", "gets good gas mileage", and "I wouldn't mind having one".

Re-grounding the audio was a PITA but I finished it. Found a new fuse for the amp but couldn't open the damn thing because none of my dozen or so allens fit. I need to figure out the audio situation soon... Didn't get to trim the seatbelt brackets because my file is too thick to fit in there. Got too lazy to go to autozone so no undercoat yet.

Commuting on the highway - 26.1 mpg. Beating the crap out of the car all day - 25.8 mpg. Gotta love it  Drove around for about 70 miles today, all backroads (except for about 2 miles of highway at one point). Quite a bit of the drive was exploratory. I was doubtful about putting the roof down when I left but after about 10 minutes of driving with the window down, I gave in. It was in the high 40s and sunny - beautiful! After a while I started getting colder and colder. Put a hat on and it was still really cold. Pulled over to put the top up and realized that it was in the mid 30s. I didn't have a jacket and couldn't put my gloves on because then I wouldn't be able to work the touchscreen on my iphone, which I was using for a map.

The Miata feels fantastic and you think you're doubling the speed limit when you're actually just keeping up with traffic. I've never in my life had so much fun at legal-ish speeds. The traction at the rear (or, rather, lack of power) is continuing to impress me - you have to be really committed to get it loose. Dirt roads, however, are painful, as the car skips around and hops up and down non-stop.

Overall, a wonderful day of driving. :)

edit: oh, and I almost ran over a turkey

Encountered my first shit-talking incident in the Miata today. Kid, you're like 16 and sitting in the back seat of someone else's Jetta. I also cant hear a word you're saying because you probably just hit puberty and your voice is cracking. I don't know whether to be mad or laugh. Put the window back up before you mess up your emo 'do. Kids these days...

That said, the Miata has been wonderful. Minor issues here and there but when I say minor I mean really minor; eg this morning the transmission started making vibrating/jiggling noises... turned out that the bottom ring of the shift knob came loose and started vibrating  The amp is out of the car; took the headunit out today but there was one wire that ran under the dash so I'm waiting till tomorrow (its too close to sunset when I get home from work) to finish that up and put the OEM stereo back in. And yes, this whole time I haven't had a working stereo.

I don't know what kind of message you would give out, driving a Miata with a rack full of toilet paper. :p

extremely fun in a corner yet very poor everywhere else. 140hp in a 2400lbs car with very short gearing is PLENTY, by the way. Cant flippin' wait to go driving this weekend!

Haha, I know how you feel! I have 178hp in a 2600lb car... it gets UP and out of it's own way. I hope to see you come and pester us at FCSCC... I'd love to see how you and your RWD MX-5 go against my FWD MINI.

I have 172hp in a 2270lb car. I know how it feels :D

I have 185 all seasons right now and less autox experience. Pretty sure you'd lap me. But we'll see, I'll try to make it down there

How to Cope With a Nine and a Half Hour Work Day
1. Get into your Miata
2. Stray from the most direct route out of the parking lot in favor of the one full of sand
3. Drift across the parking lot
4. Go wide-open on the downhill while passing a slow-moving Suburban
5. Brake just enough at the bottom of the hill to make the tight right-hander
6. Continue at wide-open throttle to the on-ramp
7. Balance the Miata delicately as you take the turn
8. Enter the highway at such a speed that you have to slow down, not speed up to merge into traffic
9. Smile. Start plotting next weekend's backroad trip.

"Heh heh. I am the great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole. Are you threatening me? Are you threatening my bunghole? YOU WILL GIVE ME TP! Heh heh. Or else. THERE WILL BE MORE BUNGHOLES AFTER ME!"

:D

Called Tire Rack: $99 to mount, balance, and align. However, that's only if you bought the new tires from them or if the tires have "touched the ground". I might roll them up and down my street a few times and see what happens.

Then called a small local tire place: $25 a corner to mount and balance + $85 for an alignment = $185

Called Wal-Mart: $10 a corner to mount and balance. Win.

A shop down the road from me is something like $25 all together, that was awhile ago though.
