I've been seeing a few of these around Live Journal today. Now, I'm no big fan of Bush (or even Kerry and the Dems for that matter), but this is the most ridiculous idea since hearing about the naked bike-riding protests in this city. Who are they going to prove by shutting-down the economy for one day, just to say "Fuck you Mr. President"? It will hurt businesses and workers for loss of one-day revenue (and a big one at that) more than it will hurt the president.

When will these people ever learn that these form of protests will never work?

That's right, this Thursday, we need everybody to scrape by without spending one single penny all day. This is a huge movement around the US to strike a huge blow to corporate America on the day of Bush's inauguration.
Do whatever you might the day before to prepare, but please don't spend a dime on January 20th. Imagine if the worst day for the American economy in decades happened on the same day that Bush spends $40 million to throw himself an inauguration party. It could send a huge message and grab headlines around the entire world. Band together to send the strongest message possible, the message of the almighty dollar!

Not that I don't really buy shit on most days anyway, but this Thursday is an exception. I'm thinking of going out for a burger & fries dinner and renting some movies in honor of "Do not spend a dime day".

if everyone would do it, the 1-man organisations and small shops would suffer, the others would feel it that much i think

read my sig ;)

but I agree with you Viggen on this matter. It goes against its point, really ... and will hurt normal workers more than Bush himself, besides - it will take more than this to get him to feel bad !

I wonder what would happen if everyone did it

the world would explode

 yes, and the world will fall out of course if every person in China jumps up and down at the same time. Or maybe we'll all die if they all farted as well ...

hmmm.... I never thought about that... I laughed my ass off after reading that

maybe I should be the first person to organize the entire population to jump at the same time... the earth would probably shake off its axis

Average American worker will hurt more because of this, do they care? Of course not they just want to hate Bush and TRY to make some noise.

In my opinion, its not even worth your time addressing.

The fringe left is so insane and warped that they will go to drastic measures to make meaningless statements.

This will succeed as much as "Choose or Lose" and "Vote or Die" did during the election. ;)

... or "you are either with us, or AGAINST us ;) .... fuck Bush ... oh yes !

They tried this crap on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving in the USA). It didn't work. I've also seen people protest gasoline prices here in California. That didn't work either. I guess we should let them do their silly protests if it makes them feel better

I love people who protest petrol prices...

Its fun to take the piss out of people who demand lower prices for something we are running out of...

^if everyone had the same thinking... Protests would never be successful and the society would not be the same today

i never can be screwed to protest. like your going to make a difference

It does work. Look at the civil rights movement.

Look at Vietnam, instead of democratic Vietnam it is communist because we pulled out of the war due to the overwhelming protest in the states. Protestors achived what they wanted. Do they care about the current state that Vietnam is in? I doubt it.
