EPL 2014/15 - The English Premier League Thread

Sunday 5th October 2014

Man Utd 2-1 Everton
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal
Tottenham 1-0 Southampton
West Ham 2-0 QPR

Saturday 4th October 2014

Hull 2-0 Crystal Palace
Leicester 2-2 Burnley
Liverpool 2-1 West Brom
Sunderland 3-1 Stoke
Swansea 2-2 Newcastle
Aston Villa 0-2 Man City

Wenger lost his cool, the Ref dealt with it very well and Jose said nothing.
A good win for Chelsea, who closed the Arsenal midfield flows really well. Jose has his top players working really hard, when needed, doing defensive work. Impressive.

Yay, Sunderland got a win and scored some goals too.
Liverpool need Sturridge back and Bolotelli & Lallana need to start scoring more goals.

Saturday 18th October 2014

Arsenal 2-2 Hull
Burnley 1-3 West Ham
Crystal Palace 1-2 Chelsea
Everton 3-0 Aston Villa

Man City 4-1 Tottenham
Newcastle 1-0 Leicester
Southampton 8-0 Sunderland - yes, EIGHT

Aguero had a great EPL day andscored four, with Eriksen showing the best out of the Spurs team. This game had 4 pens only two of whcih were scored. Soldado must be good in training, buit I still don't see much in a game. Maybe it's just me?

Arsenal were lucky to get a last minute equaliser against Hull. Wenger was a bit prickly in his BBC interview, about his crap defence.

The Chelsea score may look close, but the game wasn't. Fabregas was great and scored a goal theat Jose called "a scandal" which I think he means outrageously awsome.

Everton got their home win and looked much better, but not like last season.

Sunderland's bad day stated with the best ever own goal by Vergini. For the Saints, Pell? and Tadic were impressive, as has been Coach Koeman's start of the season for Southampton. Gus was just devastated, the Sunderland team just sort of gave up after two.

EDIT2:
Sunday 19th October 2014

QPR 2-3 Liverpool

Stoke 2-1 Swansea

QPR very unlucky not to win, let alone get a point. Liverpool were all over the place in defence and the forwards not great either.

West Brom 2-2 Man Utd

Good comeback by Man U, Fellani scored as did Blind to equalise. Maybe a good character building & team building result under LvG. Man U should be winning against WBA really, but an away point is not bad.

Saturday 25th October 2014

Liverpool 0-0 Hull
Southampton 1-0 Stoke
Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal
Swansea 2-0 Leicester
West Brom 2-2 Crystal Palace
West Ham 2-1 Man City

A goal-less draw against the Tigers is not a great result for Liverpool, but Hull are a better outfit this season, so perhaps it's OK.

Fairly easy for the Saints against Stoke, they don't need to score eight goals to win, just one will do. Southampton now second in the table, now who would have thought.

Sunderland were better, but two mistakes cost them two goals against an average "non-sparkling" Arsenal.

West Ham deserved to win against Man C, who were not having their best performance, despite 70% possesion stats. Silva was good and scored their goal. Well done Big Sam for the win.

WOW, a sting in the tail!!

Last minute by RvP, probably both Coaches will settle for a point.

Sunday 26th October 2014

Burnley 1-3 Everton
Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

The only team with NO WINS in the top 4 divisions is Burnley, who only spent ?7m prior to joining the EPL. Everton looked good or better anyway, but they weren't up against much. Eto'o had a great game for the Toffees.

A lively game at Old Trafford, Man U gave up a silly goal by having little Rafael marking Drogba on a set piece. Good gutsy comeback to then get a draw with Man U looking abit more like themselves, apart from the defence.

Newcatle equalised after seven seconds at the start of the second half, then they really fancied a result and played kind of OK.

United looked alright through-out the game, even if Chelsea probably looked the slightly better team despite missing a few players.

Ivanovic must've heard the roar of the crowd on his way down the tunnel :p

Missed the Spurs game, trust them to lose against Newcastle who had forgotten how to win. Currently watching a replay of the Swansea Leicester game. Swansea should win (62 mins in) and have been the better team. Leicester looked like they were just playing for a nil all draw.

City really made a meal out of what should've been cruising in to a victory...

Saturday 1st November 2014
Arsenal 3-0 Burnley
Chelsea 2-1 QPR
Everton 0-0 Swansea
Hull 0-1 Southampton

Leicester 0-1 West Brom
Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool
Stoke 2-2 West Ham

So, ten games played with over a quarter of the season gone, how's it looking?

Well, excepting Chelsea playing very well and a surprising Southampton, the other "serious" EPL teams have been a bit of a disappointing mess really:

Man C - gone off the boil with YYT & others slightly off form.
Arsenal - defence still a bit wobbly against big teams, but scoring well though inconsistent.
Liverpool - porous defence same as last year, but without the goal threat of Suarez & Sturridge.
Man U - LvG and a new defence & improved squad, they are looking better but it's not all jelled yet.

Also, the "supporting cast" of Spurs & Everton have been worse than last season.

Sunday 2nd November 2014

Man City 1-0 Man Utd

City really made a meal out of what should've been cruising in to a victory...

Stupid for Smalling to get sent off with LvG not a happy man, but Man U did well and could have got a draw.

Aston villa 1-2 Spurs

Benteke gets sent off with Villa 1-0 ahead, Spurs make a comeback, first equalise then get a last minute winner thorugh Kane. Well, at least Villa scored for the first time since September. (Weekend Internet chat: Ronaldo had scored 20 times since Villa last scored.)

Nice, convincing win from Spurs :p (or they got very, very lucky...:p)

Harry Kane was probably like "yup, that's what I meant to do all along!"

Liked what I saw from Man Utd despite the loss.

Kane is a good "impact" player at the moment, makes you wonder why he's not given a full game.

I also wonder what coach Pochettino makes of it all, as it wasn't like this last year with the Saints.

Liked what I saw from Man Utd despite the loss.

Yeah, looking a bit better going forward.

Monday 3rd November 2014

Crystal Palace 1-3 Sunderland

And an away win for Gus & the Black Cats, horray!

Following their 0-8 drubbing by Southampton recently, Sunderland are only 2 points behind Man U and Everton. The EPL is crazy.

Burnley break their duck and get a first win of the season, against a Hull team who were unusually poor.

Three points and a clean sheet were about all LvG can take from the Man U win, although Palace were dogged in defence and didnt offer much. 70% possesion stats for Man U. Still, a win's a win.

Liverpool: Come back Louis and get well soon Daniel!
Chelsea looked good as usual and Liverpool were perhaps unlucky not to get a pen from Gary Cahill's efforts as an extra "goalkeeper".

The Saints proved that they can win ugly, as well as the "beuatiful game" style. Coach Kooman must be enjoying the EPL.

Villa were determined not to loose six times on the bounce, stopped the Hammers playing & winning in their new attacking style. Andy Carroll was a sub and got to play for a few minutes. Good point for the Villa.

EDIT: .. and Man C were lucky to get a draw or QPR were unlucky to only get a point. Two good goals by Aguero saved them.

It's better to win while playing boring football than lose or draw while playing supposedly great football. The former is a sign of strength in depth imo.

It's a results business, as they say. Lvg & Kooman would agree too, but a different, higher standard is expected of Man U following all their history.

West Ham are playing in the style thier fans want AND winning too, after a long time when they were not able to due to their squad/money / injury etc. problems.

Saturday 22nd November 2014

Arsenal 1-2 Man Utd
Chelsea 2-0 West Brom
Everton 2-1 West Ham
Leicester 0-0 Sunderland

Man City 2-1 Swansea
Newcastle 1-0 QPR
Stoke 1-2 Burnley

Some Gunners fans may think they were robbed of a point at least, however there was something different about the Man U win. It was not a great performance by Man U, but they won in a way that they used to in the Fergusson years. The way that used to annoy all non-Man U fans with an ugly win and a "how did they do that?". Promising signs at Old Trafford, maybe.

Chelsea continue to look very skillful, stylish and hard working, as is the Murinho way. Jose and Fabregas both said after that the first 45 minutes were "the best ever play, etc".

A bit of a rough game at Everton, fairly even so maybe West Ham may feel a draw may have been a fairer result. No reds and not too many yellows, where there could have been.

Man C got away with it due to Aguero scoring, but YYT may be getting back to some form, after his family problems.

The Newcastle winning streak continues, they believe in themselves now are are fifth in the table. Hope it carries on for them.

Sunday 23rd November 2014

Crystal Palace 3-1 Liverpool
Hull 1-2 Tottenham

Liverpool loose to Palace again, with Gayle scoring again! Well, they aren't going to finish second this season. Still no Sturridge.

Sp[urs get an unlikely win against 10-man Hull. Eriksen looked thier best player, Kane too is still doing well. Soldado is another story, is he worth a ?26m club record fee? Err, no.

Monday 24th November 2014
Aston Villa 1-1 Southampton
