Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Final Gear Automotive Design Challenge! :) Just in case you've either forgotten or not heard of this, then refresh your memory with these links:

http://forums.finalgear.com/general-automotive/fg-automotive-design-challenge-1-a-37357/
http://forums.finalgear.com/general...redesigns-the-jaguar-xj-results-thread-38581/

--------------

In this challenge, you are the head of design at Porsche. You feel it is time to give the 911 series a nice refresh. The 911 has had a very consistent look for many generations, and is what defines Porsche as a brand. Failing to keep the spirit of the 911 design risks sending Porsche in to a downward spiral, but keeping it the same risks Porsche falling behind other manufacturers with new, fresh ideas. Keep this in mind when you resculpt one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. Good luck!

Guidelines:
  • Use any design method you'd like, as long as you start from scratch. Drawing, 3D modelling, vector imaging, etc.
  • Artistic talent isn't a must. Entries shall be judged on design skill rather than artistic skill.
  • Keep it real. This isn't the Photoshop contest.
  • Feel free to render any variation of your redesigned 911 (ie Turbo, GT3, RS, etc).
  • Please submit your entries via PM by 10 October 2009

I've tried this already, and have decided it's absolutely impossible to improve on the 997, short of making it look more like the 993.

I hope all the 911 haters put their money where their mouth is, and prove that they can do better than Porsche, who they complain about so much.

^It's out of my hands now! A combination of popular demand and the decision of the previous winner decided on the 911. Besides, the challenge is the whole point! Everyone whinges about these cars' design, so I give you all an opportunity to answer that age old question: how hard could it be? ;)

I like to think that if you make any significant changes to the overall design, you'd get the sack. You can always keep up with the latest trends by sticking LED lights on the front, and revise the light design every now and then, but the 911 shape is a timeless classic and it simply wouldn't be a 911 if it was changed.

Don't you think the 10th is a bit too long for the deadline?

Yes. We worked out that it's okay to do so by the end of the previous game. :)

Bump! The deadline is tomorrow, and I have some sketches done but no final effort. Let's see if I can come up with a good one.

Totally forgot about this.:(

Suggestion: to make things more interesting and a bit easier, how about for the next one instead of drawing the next generation XJ, 911, etc., why not ask people to draw new classes in the market? For example, a mid-range 350Z-rival coupe for Alfa Romeo, something like that. Or maybe revive a classic car in a new light like Merc did with the SLS? It would be interesting to see people's takes on it.

Due to the continued lack of interest, just post anything you have and discuss.
