FinalGear invades the UK - 2016 Roadtrip

what about the start day / date of the trip has that been decided yet ?

How was it done in the past, when did the trip start, Saturday or Sunday?

Last year was Saturday as the official start at the meeting point, but obviously that didn't include ferries and such for others who had to travel to the meeting point.

It's certainly affordable to fly to Edinburgh by July 31th and to fly back to Helsinki from DUS or FRA... Under 200 euros.

here, take your pick.
Cars for under ?500.00

You might find a diamond in the dirt.

I kind of, sort of want this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...A&searchcontext=default&radius=1500&logcode=p

or this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...A&searchcontext=default&radius=1500&logcode=p

I'd even keep it afterwards to drive around here. But registering it would cost more than the car is worth, also wrong-hand-drive.

Or this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...dcars&radius=1500&postcode=WC2H 7LA&logcode=p
So cheap.
A Defender of that age and milage would go for double that around here. :(

If there is a set route, I would like to get it by PM perhaps? EDIT: Got it!

Where to start.

Those diesel RRs are gutless and the electrics go wrong all the time, the Freelander is the one with the self-destructing head gasket (K-Series) but could be fine in the short term and the Defender is dodgy. I don't think a S-reg model should have that engine, also the rear crossmember is patched which means it's rotten. Some eejit put the front side and indicator lights the wrong way around too, looks stupid.

I was looking at a petrol version of that RR and was advised to get the Disco 2 instead. Diesel Freelanders aren't bad, td4s are best but they aren't cheap. It's the only one that stands a chance of keeping up with a spirited driving-speed convoy too. :D

Regarding what I'm driving that's still up in the air. Keely Superleggera is off the cards for the next couple of years due to a lack of money so I'm looking for something cheap and RWD. I'm very tempted to by an NA or NB MX-5 but not sure if I'll fit at 6 feet tall.

Been looking at rentals today, with the thought of doing the Scotland leg in one and then dropping it off when the loop is done. 180-200 GBP seems like a decent price for something useable-sized, but not too lofty (2008/Astra/Golf), rented for six days.

Nooo! Don't go via the boring route. After all, the beater plans should be for getting something silly and absolutely horrible.. :p Which is how I ended up with the Swift. :D

Nothing is set in stone yet but I'm still not sure what sort of convoy we'll be, I don't want some slow heap that'll get left behind. That's what my LRs are for. :D

There's always the Lexus plan you had years ago already.. ;)

It's tempting but I've already done the V8 auto thing now.

For potential inclusion in the route, some pretty roads in Wales.

I haven't really posted in here up until now. Even though I'd love to participate I won't be able to since I'll start a new job at July 1st so I definitely won't be able to get two to three weeks of leave in July/August. ;)

I would've guessed that, based on your plans of possibly joining the mini trip.. :p

That's how I've understood things, apart from Dave of course.
