Well, since the pre-ringmeet roadtrip dates have been published by Adrian, the Ringmeet dates weren't hard to figure out.
This year, we're back in the Oldtimer GP weekend due to a few reasons. Of these reasons, the most prominent one is that due the ownership shift at the ring and a lot of politics attached to that, tourist drives dates beyond January haven't been posted yet. To complicate matters, There's also the issue with the F1 rights, which are still with the old owners, and there may or may not be an F1 GP "somewhere in July". Because we don't want to accidentally an F1 race, we decided to go for a weekend that was certain to a) have tourist drives; and b) not have F1. Since the Oldtimer GP is one of the biggest events on the N?rburgring calendar, this seems a safe bet.

The basics are still the same, a bunch of internet nerds will descend upon camping Viktoria Station in Kreuzberg (Ahr) for a couple days. There will of course be room for tourist srives for those who are inclined to do so. Furthermore, since the success last year, we will try to book the big green party tent again, so there's a nice (dry) place for us to hang out at the campsite. The rest of the program is still up for grabs, so join us in the IRC channel #ringmeet if you have good ideas.

Watch this space for more info!

I was about to say, we should make a thread soon, with the date obvious due to the wild Adrian posting the roadtrip-thread :p

- - - Updated - - -

Oh and that will also mean that I will call Victoria Station soon and try to get a group-price including the partytend?, power and whatever else.

Ooooh, I just might be able to do this.

/me starts planning and saving money.

So, I know I already asked it, but to leave it as info for other foreigners:

What is the best airport when going by plane?

Whatever is the cheapest destination for flights from your end ;). If you plan to get a rental anyway here, the choice is completely yours. If you wanna rely on a pickup by someone, you might wanna coordinate that, but we usually have people passing all the airports. Potential aiports: FRA, HHN, CGN, DUS, depending on your plans and time (rental) STR, AMS and most others in central europe :p

Bummer. This date means I'm probably out. :(

Dammit! Now who's going to get all shirty on the Sunday morning when it's time to pay for the campsite?

Actually, this year I'm planning on doing all the nasty financial bits up front. Thomas has agreed to book the campsite, and he will negotiate a tariff with them, so we know up front how much everyone will need to pay. Same for the beer money, and the bbq. It can all be calculated up front, so we will most likely just let people pay via paypal or cash upon arrival.

If you plan being a passenger (some drivers most certainly would let you drive partly though) the nearest airport is Nice (NCE) where I plan to arrive on August 2nd. You could arrange pickup from people who drive there anywhere so Frankfurt (FRA) and Stuttgart (STR) would be on the way of some people.

If you want to rent a car, it's everywhere you like as thomas already stated, but I'm not sure if you want to drive 1000 km before the actual roadtrip starts so Nice would be the best choice for renting the car, too.

FYI: Ringmeet-thread, not roadtrip ;)

Whoops...

Yeah, I mixed those two up. Frankfurt or Cologne/Bonn should be best for people picking you up.

I was about to point out I wanted to go to the Ringmeet, not the roadtrip.
Thank you, I?ll see if there is a price difference.

I need to check what I would need to use my driver?s license in Germany, but I really wouldn?t mind just being a passenger. My wife will probably be going too, but she does not drive.

I just claimed my vacancie for 01.08 to 23.08.2013, although i won't be going with the Road trip. @ 03.08 04.08 I'll be at our local track watching Group H Hillclimb. I'll be joining you guys on friday @ the usual place ;).

personal note * get new tent, old one is rather leaking.

I'm super happy that we do the AVD Grand Prix, I was very happy with it last year. I shall reupload some of the Pics from last year ! Weather was great btw Sunny all the way
There is still hope, that the weather will be better than last year Flood Camp ^^

As I am currently in the transition between higher education and the job market (read: on the dole) I don't know what job and what hours I'll be working by August. Thus, I'll do my best to be there, but I won't promise anything just yet.

Hoping I can make this, getting the time off shouldn't be an issue. Having a fully working and undamaged car is another issue.

Then there's the question of taking a lifted Discovery with mud tyres on a race track, I think I may have to either give it a miss or get some smaller road tyres with wheel spacers to fix the inevitable *ahem* stability issue.

Oh come on, mud tires are just perfect for the moment when you fail and leave the track at Br?nnchen, or when you wanna take Adenauer Forst just straight :p.

To the both of you; why not roadtrip?

To be honest, I don't know. I think I didn't want to be all like "Hey, who wants to ride with a guy from Brazil, that you never saw before, for a week?"
Now that you mentioned it, I'd like to visit a friend that lives in K?benhaven on the same trip, so I think the roadtrip is a possibility. I'll post there as well. :)

I'd love to have you as a passenger. Unfortunately that seat is taken by thomas, but i'm sure someone else has room for you - or if you drive a rental we sure have room for that! :D

I had similar fears but within a few minutes of arriving at the campsite I felt right at home and the rest, as they say, is history! Once you've had a conversation with two people you only just me that involves Japanese tentacle porn the tone is pretty much set. ;)
