Car(s)
1995 850 turbo wagon with a schtick
so i am looking for my first car ever. I am looking for a car that is not american, that i wont see it at every corner. So this mean it will mostly be a european. It has to be 4 door so no fancy coup? for me. If i take the car its cause i have stuff to move or i have friend that will come with me.So i looked a bit on used car website and the only interesting car i found are volvo s70(mostly the turbo fwd one)audi a4(quattro and turbo would be a good thing) or subaru impreza 4 door.

I wanna know if those car can be reliable even if i buy them with 250 000 km on them and does the pirce of reparation for them are high. Also if you have any other car suggestion please feel free to post. But keep in mind that my budget is about 5000$ cad and that the car will mostly be used for hauling stuff and friend and will see alot of winter action.

^ Sounds like a good choice. Most of the time a "hot" car for that kind of money needs some work. Legacy has space, is decent to drive, and is good in the snow.

Volvo Wagon V70 or 850 - big though and expensive to run and insure. MAZDA 6 or an older 3 perhaps, not very European I am afraid. VW Golf or POLO perhaps? Do not know what else to suggest - do you get SEATs or SKODAs?

You need something fast with lots of power. Might I recommend a Mitsubishi Galant VR4. Throw on a 20g turbo upgrade and a piggy back ecu.

In all seriousness, I would go for a Subaru, or might I recommend a 4 door BMW. I love my e30, and they are simple and not too bad to work on. The newer you get the more you want to stay away from them as they get more complicated and expensive to fix. Even though these things are RWD, they do surprisingly well in slick and snowy conditions.

Personally I'd stay away from the FWD volvo's. After seeing what it takes to get to certain bits, labor charges on repairs can't be cheap.

My first car at 16 was a cammed 5.0 Mustang 5 speed. I didn't kill myself...

Just thank god for the fact that you have cheap imprezas, and go buy one of those. Simple, reliable, and fun, what more do you want? :)

A Ferrari!

A Ferrari!

no no. Much too low class. He should buy a Konegseggeggegggg

Buy seriously, look at the volvo 850 Turbo. or if you have any R's in that range, look at those. Check to see that servicing has been done. Mantainance is expensive.

and as a result, you're slower now, you've got a RX 7... :p

Don't be bothered by him, snoro :p

Hey, I didn't say the Mustang was a good car

Well first thing all of you must remember that i live in canada so we dont have vw polo or seat or skoda.second, i tought also about buying a wagon but i dont like the fact of having alot of space and not using it.I do a bit of cycling and i coach a football/soccer team so i need some minimal space but a wagon is a bit too much.so thats why no legacy/impreza wagon and no volvo wagon. As for volvo bits and labor charge i have a garage near where i live who they charge about the same of a japanese, general or american specialised garage.for mazda 6 and 3, well they are a bit too new for me here so it would be mazda 626 or protege. My dad had a 626 and it felt like a big slow and poor quality boat. And for the protege its a bit too common here.FOr the mustang, i have a profound hate for mustang, corvette and camaro. For the e30, which one would be recommended cause there is alot of model in the e30 range

You want your first car to be dependable and reasonably common -- this keeps your maintenance costs down, as well as cheap to insure. I know it sounds boring, but about the last thing you want to have happen is get an expensive car that you can't afford to run anymore at the first whiff of trouble.

How about something like a late 1990s Golf (maybe even a GTI) or a 2000-ish Honda Civic?

When you're shopping for used cars, make sure you're checking in Montreal, Quebec City and Hull/Gatineau areas. Don't be afraid to travel a bit to get the right car.

i am a cock cause i hate mustang,camaro and corvette ??
nvm,i think i will simply just go with a volvo s70 awd. what i should check mostly on those cars? and does there any fg member that had horror stories with one of them.

I'm not a fan of late Volvo reliability. My 850 Turbo wasn't cheap to maintain.

No, you're a cock because you want to drive a BMW (per Top Gear, BMW drivers are cocks).

Well, that and you're a Qu?becois. :p
